Run the Great Trek’s 100th Anniversary!

Join the 100th annual Great Trek for a “Jaunt Through Musqueam Territory” on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

What is the Great Trek?

Formerly known as the Fall Classic, the Great Trek is put on by UBC in partnership with RUNVAN® as their fourth and final event of the year. The Great Trek features in-person or virtual races for everyone, including:

  • Half Marathon (21.1 km)
  • 10 KM
  • 5 KM
  • RUNVAN ® Hat-trick (all three runs combined, equivalent to 36.1 km)

Why should UBC Students run the Great Trek?

In 1922, UBC students created a campaign to encourage the building of more facilities and classrooms for the university. However, building space was minimal and the government had ceased the building of the Point Grey area.

In late October of 1992, students started a petition and led a march through Downtown Vancouver to Point Grey in protest. This revolution became known as the Great Trek. The students were successful in their protests and the continuation of the building on Point Grey was approved.

This year we run the Great Trek’s 100th anniversary to recognize our privilege and express our gratitude of the UBC campus being located on the beautiful, traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people.
