TSC November Athletes of the Month

November was a jam-packed month for TSC competition and these two athletes stood out with their performances and contributions to their sport clubs.

TSC November Athlete of the Month: Grace Zhang, TSC Table Tennis

Hometown: Burnaby, BC

Year: 5th Year Undergraduate

Faculty: Faculty of Applied Science

November Achievements:

    • 1st Place Team Finish – Women’s Division

    • Clinching match vs. University of Washington with an 18-16, 5th set victory.

In Table Tennis SC's competitive debut as a Thunderbird Sport Club at the Northwest Divisionals held by the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association, they saw plenty of team success. Grace was a key player that contributed to the Women's Team finishing in first place, was always supporting and encouraging other team members, and inspired many when she won the last match of the tournament by a nail-biting two points: 18-16 in the fifth set to win the match 3-2!

In addition to her competitive performances, Grace has been a key leader in the club's operations. Grace serves as the Travel & Safety Officer for the Table Tennis SC and organized the travel logistics of their trip to Seattle and has been very diligent in maintaining the team's safety in practices and competition. Congratulations, Grace!

TSC November Athlete of the Month: Brianne Jim, TSC Women's Tennis

Hometown: Vancouver, BC

Year: 2nd Year Undergraduate

Faculty: Faculty of Science

November Achievements:

  • UBC Women's Tennis competitive debut

After being sidelined the previous year due to injury, Brianne has worked hard towards making her university debut this season. Brianne’s first ever university matches were against University of Calgary in the month of November and she stepped up to play one singles and one doubles. Brianne performed great in both of her matches, with narrow defeats to her opponents but her sideline presence and enthusiasm contributed to a 5-2 victory over the University of Calgary.

Off the court, Brianne played a key role in fundraising for the team as she led both the men's and women's teams for most raffle tickets sold at their annual mixer fundraiser. Congratulations, Brianne!

TSC November 2022 Athlete of the Months Finalist

Artistic Swimming - Raiyanna Alibhai

Even though it's only her first season with the club Raiyana has already stepped up on the novice team with her commitment to practice and taking on an extra routine in her first year. She's always enthusiastic at practice and the effort she puts in day in day out has really shown in her skills.

Congratulations to all of our TSC athletes who competed this month! We look forward to December's competitions and more opportunities for our athletes to show off their skills and much more.
