2022 Ken Demchuk Int’l Invitational (Dec. 15-18)

The UBC Aquatic Centre is pleased to be the host venue for the 2022 Ken Demchuk International Invitational (Dec. 15-18, 2022).  The para-swimming event, hosted by Swimming Canada, will see some of Canada’s best, along with swimmers from abroad, strive for international event selection standards including the 2023 World Para Championships and the Paris 2024 Paralympic Summer Games.

Building on the success of Swimming Canada’s Paralympic Team training camp (August 3-18, 2021) hosted at UBC prior to their departure for the Tokyo 2020* Paralympic Summer Games, the UBC Aquatic Centre is pleased to once again be working with Swimming Canada and local officials to deliver quality sport for swimmers with the disability right here in Vancouver. “Whereas we are very proud of the blue and gold of our UBC Thunderbirds, it is exciting to see the Canada red of Swimming Canada’s national swim team program here in the building,” shared Stéphane Delisle, Sr Mgr Programs and Operations. “Building on the work we do to support Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre – Vancouver each and every day, this para swimming event is another way to continue our support of Canada’s best swimmers and a great opportunity for our student-staff and our community to see to involved first-hand.”

Users of the UBC Aquatic Centre are reminded that the facility remains open to members, students, public, etc. during the event as staffing levels permit. Whereas the 50m competition tank and steam and sauna will be dedicated to the event over the course of the weekend, the 25m Recreation tank,  Leisure Tank will be available. (Note: the Hot Tub is closed for maintenance) Visitors are invited to consult the UBC Aquatic Centre Facility Schedule prior to any visit to see full details.
