Q&A with the Move U Crew

Ever wonder about the talented Move U Crew, who are they anyway? I could tell you but I thought it might be more interesting to hear from the Move U Crew members themselves. SO without further ado, I present to you, the Move U Crew!

Sam (She/Her)

Q: What year are you in?
A: 4th year!

Q: What faculty are you in?
A: English Lit

Q: What’s your favourite physical activity?
A: I can’t choose one! I adore any kind of pilates, dance, and walking

Q: What inspired you to apply to be on the Crew?
A: I grew up as a competitive dancer and assisted in some classes at my studio. There, I realized that leading others in movement brings me so much joy! I felt the mental and physical impact of not dancing or moving as much in general during my first year of uni. The Move U Crew is definitely something I would’ve benefitted from had I known about it earlier which is why I was so keen on joining!

Q: What’s a Move U highlight you’re most proud of?
A: Definitely the Jonas Brothers’ “Burnin’ Up” movement break that I created for the Thrive By the Fire event in November 2021. I love a throwback Disney jam so when this song came on my music queue I instantly knew this would be a super fun dance break to lead…plus I love a pun so I couldn’t resist.

Bindu (She/Her)

A: 4th year

A: Yoga because it really pushes me to work on things that I need to improve on, like flexibility, mobility and strength. Also, it de-stresses me and makes me more mindful and present.

Q: What’s the best thing you’ve learnt in your position on the Move U Crew so far?
A: Being a Move U Crew member means being a guide for others to start/continue their well-being journeys, and making movement more tailored to what each individual enjoys.

Q: When you started the Move U Crew, what surprised you the most?
A: The versatility of the work, we are planning movement breaks, well-being walks, moderating lunch and lift, creating content, event planning and more!

Q: Why do you enjoy being on the Crew?
A: I feel like I’m learning a lot about myself by being on the crew because of the different opportunities and lovely people! For example, I am learning to step out of my comfort zone in terms of public speaking and believing in myself more! Because I do tend to underestimate my own abilities at times, which is why I am grateful I was given such an opportunity to work on myself on top of helping others in this position 🙂
