TSC kicked off the New Year right with competitions all across the board. Not only did teams make their calendar debut, but they shined in their performances, garnering plenty of success for their respective sport clubs. Of those who competed, these athletes stood out and made their mark at their competitions.
TSC January Athlete of the Month: Jenalyn Ng, TSC Women’s Ultimate
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
Year: 1st Year Undergraduate
Faculty: Faculty of Arts
January Achievements:
- Notable performance in UBC’s 4-0 sweep at the Bellingham Invite
- Played key minutes on the defensive line – scoring a Callahan in one of them
"As a rookie on the team, Jenalyn had a strong presence on the defensive line at our first tournament, Bellingham Invite, where the team went 4-0 against other top teams in our region. Not only was Jen a menace on defence - even scoring a Callahan in the game against UW - she was also a reliable receiver on offense. Additionally, Jen is hard-working and enthusiastic at every practice.
Prior to playing on T-birds, Jen was a member of Team Canada U20 Women's in 2022, helping the team bring home a bronze medal at junior worlds. She is an amazing addition to our team and we can't wait to see what else she achieves this season!" - UBC Women's Ultimate Executives
TSC January Athlete of the Month: Erraine Dai, TSC Table Tennis
Hometown: Tai'an, China
Year: 2nd Year Undergraduate
Faculty: Sauder School of Business/Department of Computer Science
January Achievements:
- Contributions to the Women's Team placing 1st at Pacific Northwest Divisionals II.
"Erainne has been a consistent role model and source of support for our team members. She always gives it her all at practices and competition matches, encourages other team members, and can often be seen asking our coach and teammates for feedback about how she can improve. Additionally, she was able to persevere and bounce back despite a tough loss at our Spring Divisional Championships this past weekend - after losing a devastatingly close match to one of her opponents 2-3 in the Women's Singles event, she learned from the experience and later went on to beat the same girl 3-0 in the teams event, only a few hours later!" - UBC TSC Table Tennis Executives
