UBC at World Aquatics Champs (Japan)

The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Swimming Program is representing at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka Japan (July 14-30, 2023).

Hugh McNeill (UBC Engineering | recruit from Langley Olympians Swim Club) qualified for his first senior World Championships team by winning the men’s 200 backstroke at the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials. UBC Varsity Swimming Head Coach Derrick Schoof has been named to the Canadian Team delegation as Team Coach.

The UBC Aquatic Centre is pleased to be home of UBC Varsity Swimming Teams, Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre – Vancouver, and Vancouver Pacific Swim Club, as well as UBC student sport clubs, and community groups. In addition to hosting the 2023 Swim BC Provincial Swimming Championships (July 13-16), the UBC Aquatic Centre will again this summer host pre-event staging camps for members of Swimming Canada’s national teams – this time for the Santiago 2023 Pan and ParaPan Am Games and the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships 2023 (Netanya, Israel). The facility is committed to supporting students, faculty, staff and community with leisure, recreational and summer aquatic camps programming while also providing space and time that is conducive to high performance training delivering on the vision of “Campus, Community & Competition“.
