Women (Trans Welcome) & Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) Programs | Fall 2023

At UBC Recreation, we believe that everyone deserves a space where they can thrive, connect, and embrace their unique journey towards wellness. We are excited to shine a spotlight on our Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) and Women (Trans Welcome) programs for fall 2023!

We invite you to explore the enriching experiences and tailored programs we’ve designed with you in mind. Whether you identify as Two-Spirit, non-binary, trans, or a woman, our aim is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where you can explore the joys of recreation, find your community, and embark on a path to holistic well-being. Explore the following programs to get you started!

Women (Trans Welcome) Programs:

Time to meet people, learn basketball & have a full night of fun! We invite you to join us on Thursday, October 12th, for a special basketball event hosted by the UBC Recreation Intramural program. This event is open to those who identity as women (trans welcome), and are interested in learning how to play basketball, or looking to make new friends and meet people!

Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday, October 12
  • Time: 7:30 – 9:30PM
  • Location: SRC Gymnasiums
  • What to Bring: Comfortable sports attire, sneakers and water (all equipment will be provided)
  • What to Expect: Some get to know you activities, refreshments and a few basketball drills!
  • Cost: Free!
  • No registration required! 

This event does not require registration! Drop by the SRC Gymnasiums for a fun night of games and meeting like minded people!

Empower your fitness journey in an inclusive space catering to the experiences of women, both trans and cis, during our Women (Trans Welcome) Fitness Hours at the ARC Lower Level Studio.

Program Details:

  • Hours (September 11 – December 8, 2023):
    • Every Monday from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM | Women’s (Trans Welcome)
    • Every Tuesday from 7:30 AM – 10:30 AM | Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB)
    • Every Thursday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Women’s (Trans Welcome)
    • Every Friday from 7:30 AM – 10:30 AM | Women’s (Trans Welcome)
  • Cost:
    • Fitness Centre Membership is required to access Women (Trans Welcome) & Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) Fitness Hours

Experience empowerment and community in our exclusive women-only fitness classes, welcoming trans and cis women to embrace their strength, confidence, and well-being.

The following classes are registration based series that take place over the term:

  • Intermediate Weightlifting for Women (Trans Welcome)
  • Intro to Weightlifting for Women (Trans Welcome)
  • Workout 101 and 201 for Women (Trans Welcome)

Move More, Learn More is a 7-week interactive health education program designed for Asian women (trans welcome)- a group with (on average) low levels of physical activity, however all women are welcome to participate. This specialized program includes a variety of health learning topics and private group physical activity sessions so that participants can try out new ways to move. Start your journey in health and fitness to find out what suits your lifestyle!

"This is a fantastic and worthy program for physical exercise for beginners! You will refresh your mindset for physical activity, and help you encourage yourself to do it on your own. You will also be provided a chance to try more than 15 different activities in UBC Recreation, and find the ones you like. None of them are too intense for beginners so don’t be terrified. You will also learn self-care techniques, and win lovely prizes by participating in the program!"

UBC Recreation hosts numerous iconic events throughout the school year at varying levels of competition and it offers 11 different league sports throughout the school year in addition to a summer soccer, roundnet and softball league. Within our Intramural leagues and events participation structure, we offer a welcoming category specifically for Women (Trans Welcome).

Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) Programs: 

Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) swim time is for all who identify as two-spirit, trans and non-binary of all ages and swimming ability.

What to Expect:

  • When: Every Friday evening from 8:00-9:30PM
  • Multiple Pools: Both the Recreation pool and Leisure pool are available during this session, offering a variety of options for lane swimming and open swim.
  • Inclusive Environment: Blinds are lowered on the south side of the building, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
  • Join the Celebration: Come as you are and enjoy the company of like-minded individuals in a supportive and understanding community.

Important Note: To ensure the comfort and inclusivity of all participants, we kindly ask that guests arrive at the start time of the session.
