175 TSC Student Athletes Recognized with Academic Thunderbird Award

The TSC Academic Thunderbird Award honours student athletes who have found excellence in their classroom, while participating in their sport club. This award recognizes athletes who achieved an 80% or higher sessional average while competing for their sport club.*

Last year marked an official return to play for all sports in the TSC program. With a full return to action, our student-athletes put emphasis on finding success in both the classroom and in their sport.

The 2022-2023 season saw a record 175 student-athletes recognized with the Academic Thunderbird award. An increase of 13 athletes from the previous year. This figure represents an impressive 50 percent of total sport club athletes. Equally impressive that these student-athletes are achieving this at a Top 40 university in the world.

Representing all TSC sport clubs and a wide range of UBC faculties, the number of these role models for athletic and academic excellence surpasses the previous record of 162 set in the 2021-2022 season.

Six of the sport clubs finished with a team average above 80%. TSC Triathlon held the highest average amongst all teams, with an impressive team GPA of 82.60 spanning from undergraduate students to graduate students across a variety of faculties.
