Start off 2024 right with UBC Recreation! Here’s everything coming your way this January…

Free Week

January 8 – 14

Free Week offers UBC students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to try out a variety of fitness programs and activities. From Ballet to Zumba to TNT Boot Camp, there’s something for everyone to try! No experience is required, and all abilities are welcome.


League Registration Closes

January 8

We are currently offering numerous intramural leagues this winter, including our new additions: pickleball and badminton. Please note that our intramural leagues sell out fast – be sure to secure your spot!

Free Agent Meeting

January 11

Intramural Leagues at UBC are the perfect way to stay active throughout the school year and engage in sports! If you were unable to find a team, but still want to participate, you are able to register as a free agent during the Free Agent Meeting.


Lunch + Lift Workshop

January 16

Join us for a relaxing 30-minute yoga class, followed by a workshop on the benefits of spending time in nature. This session will help you to learn evidence-based strategies that you can apply on campus or in the city to maximize your urban green exposure and overall wellness!


Wellbeing Walks

January 17 & 31

Join us for the first wellbeing walks of the term! Let’s celebrate the New Year by crushing those step goals and getting cozy with some hot cocoa on January 17. This will be followed by the Lights, Camera, Action Walk on January 31! In this scavenger hunt, you’ll match the movie or tv show still to the famous filming locations right here on campus.


On the Button Curling Bonspiel

January 21

Sweep those winter blues away with a fun night of curling. Whether it’s your first time on the ice or you’re a seasoned sweeper this tournament is a great way to try a Canadian national pastime. Register by January 16 to secure your spot!


Yoga Rave

January 26

Yoga Rave is a glow-in-the-dark yoga dance party, free for UBC students! Wear your brightest neon clothes and bring your yoga mat (or borrow one). Designed for fun and all abilities. Register by January 24!


Adaptive Sports

Registration closes January 30

This event is meant for people of all abilities to come together and have the unique opportunity to experience the resilience every parasport athlete practices to master their sport. This year’s adaptive sport may include wheelchair floorball, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.


Storm the Wall

Registration opens January 30 @ 1:00 PM

Register for one of UBC’s most iconic experiences! Participate as a competitive or just for fun team and complete the course as a relay, or challenge yourself to do the whole course on your own as an Iron Person. You will swim, sprint, bike, run, and Storm The Wall! A fun & exciting UBC tradition!


Walk For Joy

January 31

Walk for Joy (formerly known as Walkabout) is an annual 9-week walking challenge that strives to promote regular physical activity in social settings. It was designed and launched in 2005 by the late Dr. Joy Butler of the UBC Faculty of Education. This year’s charitable beneficiary will be the Rainbow Refugee. Registration closes January 29.


Move More Learn More

Registration closes January 31

Move More, Learn More is a 7-week interactive health education program designed for Asian women (trans welcome)- a group with (on average) low levels of physical activity, however all women are welcome to participate. This specialized program includes a variety of health learning topics and private group physical activity sessions so that participants can try out new ways to move.
