TSC Weekend Round Up: Feb 3-4

February 3 & 4, 2024 – The weekend brought triumphs across Alpine Skiing, Table Tennis, and Equestrian teams. From podium finishes to regional qualifications, our teams showcased exceptional skill and unity.

Alpine Skiing

The team returned to Idaho this weekend to compete in the third NWCSC qualifier.

Congratulations to our Men’s team for their second-place overall placement on Sunday and a huge shout out to the new racers who helped the men secure that win including Nathan Pennie and Daniel Ringrose! Congratulations to Coco Robertson for her third-place win on Sunday, Bella Bay for 9th place on Saturday and Sunday, and Marko Smitran for 7th place on Sunday.

Shoutouts to Nathan Pennie and Nicolai Van Kruijsdijk for their placements in the top 20 on Sunday.

With snowy and sunny conditions, we had a solid weekend thanks to our amazing team and all their hard work! We will be heading to Washington next weekend to compete in the final qualifier at Snoqualmie Pass!

Table Tennis

Table Tennis had a great tournament this past Sunday in Seattle, playing in both the Singles and Teams
events!

In the Men’s Singles competition, Lak Zhang demonstrated remarkable skill and secured the runner up position. This ensures his place in the Regional Tournament next month in Burlingame! Great work!

In the Women’s Singles event, Akkshita Guptaa and Grace Zhang showcased their unique playing styles and met in the semi-finals match. Grace secured the 3rd position whereas Akkshita claimed the runner up spot. This would mean Akkshita’s direct qualification for regionals too.

In the Women’s Teams event, our A Team placed first. Our Co-Ed A Team came in 2nd place! The team will be playing at the Regionals at Burlingame, CA, next month.

Shoutouts

  • Shoutout to Tom for capturing those amazing moments through his lens! His photography skills are truly outstanding. Keep up the fantastic work, Tom!
  • Great play by Akkshita Guptaa and Lak Zhang for making it to the finals in the women’s and men’s category respectively! Every set was close and it was a game of both skill and mentality that garnered a round of applause from spectators and players when the game concluded.
  • A big shoutout to Rose, a former team member, for volunteering her time to take on driving, coaching, and procuring sustenance for the team.
  • Shoutout to all the players for supporting each other throughout the tournament (despite the cold temperatures inside the gym!). We are all looking forward to travelling together to Burlingame next month for more table tennis competition!

Equestrian

What a weekend! The Equestrian Team finished their last regional competition in Lynden, Washington and our riders absolutely killed it. The two days started bright and early as we crossed the border to take part in the WWU Show.

We finished strong at this show, with Madison Weber (open rider; class 7 & 8), Anina Backman-Choo (intermediate rider; class 5 & 6), and Danielle Porrit (limit rider; class 3 & 4) all qualifying to compete in Zone 8 Finals at STANFORD! Madi also took home the overall Highpoint Open Rider and received the Cacchione Cup!

It was wonderful to be part of a community that works together in an individual sport. Needless to say, the team finished strong, wrapping it up with a solid performance that spoke for itself.
