March 16 & 17, 2024 – Rounding up on the latest successes and challenges across multiple sports this past weekend. From big wins in artistic swimming and women’s ultimate to standout performances in cycling, nordic skiing, and sailing, it’s been an eventful few days for the TSC teams.
Artistic Swimming
This weekend the UBC Artistic Swimming Club traveled to Winnipeg, MB to compete at the CUASL National Championships. After Westerns was canceled in January, this was the club’s only chance to compete against other universities across Canada.
Our competition started strong on Friday with Experienced Team Prelims, where our teams gave it their all to pave the way to finals. Saturday, our Novice soloist performed beautifully to achieve 9th place, followed by our Experienced soloists who swam their way to 2nd and 7th. Sunday started bright and early with our Novice duet finishing in 4th place. Next, our Experienced Duets powered through routines, with one pair claiming 2nd. The final event of the competition was Experienced Team Finals. The White Team had the best swim of their season, achieving all their personal goals. The Gold Team moved up from prelims and shuffled their way to 6th. Finally, for the third year in a row, the Blue Team held onto the title of National Champions bringing home the Gold!
After winning second in solo and duet and first in team, Marissa Enns was awarded Top Experienced Athlete of the entire competition. The UBC Artistic Swimming Club had a very victorious weekend, and congratulations to all the talented athletes who competed this season!
Cycling
The UBC cycling team had another full and fun weekend! Athletes participated in the Southie road race Saturday, the Local Island Cup Mountain bike race Sunday and had countless kilometres in the sun throughout the weekend!

Sailing
This weekend the team competed the Sea to Sky regatta in Victoria British Columbia. After 2 days of racing in summer like conditions the team came in 3rd and 4th out of 8 teams. The team showed significant improvement in their racing and the skills demonstrated this weekend was a perfect example of the hard work put in this season. Our team had a blast competing against WWU and Uvic and we are excited to get back on the water soon.
Women’s Ultimate
This past weekend, the Birdies drove down to Seattle for Northwest Challenge, their last regular season tournament. The warm, sunny weather fueled the Birdies all weekend long, with commanding wins on Day 1 against Northeastern and Western Washington University. On Day 2, the Birdies faced Washington for the first time in quarters, and Colorado again in semis. Despite having a close, universe point game against Carleton at Santa Barbara Invite, the Birdies clamped down on defense and took home the title, winning 13-8. The team is so grateful for all the support from friends, family, and alumni who came out to support us this weekend. Next up is post season, starting with sectionals in Corvallis, Oregon.
