If you’re around, we will have a few fun activities, some prizes, and we always love to talk to you about where to find community on campus. Your first year at UBC can be overwhelming, so we hope we can help make things feel a little smaller in this huge place, just like your Collegia Advisors are already doing. Explore the following sections to learn how to make the most of your first year at UBC!
Intramurals Event & Leagues
UBC Recreation hosts numerous iconic events throughout the school year at varying levels of competition and it offers 11 different league sports throughout the school year.
Water Wars | October 10
Come to the UBC Aquatic Centre, no swimming experience required! Teams will rotate through a series of fun and games in the pool! Registration for Water Wars closes on October 7.
Great Trek | October 26
Embark on the Great Trek this fall! There are races for everyone, including a 5km, 10km, 21,1km and 3,6km. Great Trek will be on UBC campus on October 26 and registration closes on October 21.
Gladiator | November 7
Spend an evening in the transformed Student Rec Centre gymnasiums - theme to be revealed! Teams will rotate through inflatables and activities! Registration for Gladiator closes on November 4.
Icebreaker | November 28
Head on down to Thunderbird Arena - no skating skills required! Join us for a night of fun games & activities, a public skating session, and a live DJ! Registration for Icebreakers closes on November 25.

Move More Learn More
Move More, Learn More is an interactive health education. This specialized program includes a variety of health learning topics and private group physical activity sessions so that participants can try out new ways to move. Register by October 2!
Rec 101
Are you a new student at UBC? We’ve got the perfect program for you! This program will introduce you to a variety of recreation activities on campus, while at the same time will provide you with opportunities to meet new people and have some fun! Register by October 2!
Lunch & Lift Workshops | Free
Lunch & Lift is a series of free 2-in-1 interactive wellbeing workshops consisting of a 30-minute movement class, followed by a 30-minute interactive wellbeing session facilitated by a UBC wellbeing professional.
Wellbeing Walk & Rolls | Free
Twice a month, the UBC Move U Crew host a 45-minute themed lunch walk and roll around campus. These walks are a great way to meet new people, explore the campus, have some fun, and get moving!

Fitness & Classes
We have two fitness facilities: The BirdCoop Fitness Centre and the ARC Fitness Centre. These facilities offer gym memberships, private fitness hours, climbing cave, a variety of fitness classes, as well as personal training for individuals of all fitness levels.
Fitness Centre Memberships
UBC Recreation’s various Fitness Memberships offer access to the ARC & BirdCoop Fitness Centres and a variety of group fitness activities, including Spin, Yoga & Pilates, and Boot Camps. Check out the various membership packages to find the right fit for you!

Free Programs for UBC Students
UBC Rec offers a variety of FREE drop-in sessions for all UBC students with a valid UBC card at our facilities.
UBC Rec provides a range of free drop-in sessions for all UBC students with a valid UBC card. These sessions are available at our facilities and include:
- Drop-in sports at the SRC (badminton, basketball, futsal, table tennis, and volleyball)
- Drop-in studio time at the SRC & ARC
- Drop-in swim at the Aquatic Centre
- Drop- in skate at the Thunderbird Arena (during public skating time only)
- Helmet or skate rental: $4.50
- Rent equipment to use on MacInnes Field (soccer balls, rugby balls, Spikeball sets, and more)
