Gayton Family Award | Submit Nominations

On behalf of the entire Intramural program, we would like to say thank you for your participation in this year’s leagues, tournaments, and events. We are incredibly excited to announce the continuation of the Gayton Family Award for the 2024/25 academic year (formerly known as the Robert Gayton Award).

The Gayton Family Leadership Award in Recreation was created to recognize UBC students who have demonstrated leadershipsense of fair play and active community building through long-standing participation in one or more UBC Recreation programs. Preference will be given to those students participating in the Intramural Program.

We invite you to nominate deserving candidates for this prestigious award. Nominations are open now and will close on Monday, March 24, 2025, at midnight:

Award Creation Background:

The Gayton Family Award honours Robert (Bob) Gayton, a former member of the UBC Rowing team and the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Bob, who served as President of the Bachelor of Commerce Student Society in 1962, cherished his time participating in intramurals as a student. He established this award to provide current UBC students with additional financial support, enabling them to engage in extracurricular activities.

Adjudication, Awards & Ceremony:

The adjudication of awards will be conducted by a committee comprised of Athletics & Recreation Professionals, Student Staff, and Volunteers. In 2025, a total of 8 awards, each valued at $500, will be distributed. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at UBC. Recipients will be contacted directly and invited to attend the award ceremony.

Past Winners:

We encourage participants to explore the achievements of our past winners, whose exemplary leadership and dedication to community building have set a remarkable standard within UBC’s Intramural programs.
