UBC’s Ultimate Teams Bound for Nationals

Vancouver – May 22, 2025, Both the UBC Men’s and Women’s Ultimate teams have earned their spot at this year’s national championships in Burlington Washington. The Women’s team heads into the tournament as the top seed with an impressive 27-1 record. We caught up with captain Jamie Jung and Freshman Madoka Wowk to hear their thoughts on the journey to nationals.


Interview with Team Captain Jamie Jung

Q: How is the team feeling heading into the tournament this year? What are your goals/ expectations?

A: I am feeling really excited and pumped up. Obviously, the goal is to win it all and leave everything on the field with no regrets.

Q: Are there lessons you are taking from previous trips to Nationals that will help you this year?

A: The lesson I am taking from previous nationals into this year is to expect the unexpected.

Q: How has your team sustained this level of success for so long?

A: I think our team has been able to sustain success for so long because of the consistent buy in from great coaches and hard working players.


Interview with Madoka Wowk

Q: How is the team feeling heading into the tournament this year? What are your goals/ expectations?

A: I’m feeling very excited, a little bit nervous because it’s my first nationals but I’m excited to see all the progress we’ve made over season. My goals and expectations is that we execute everything we’ve done in practice and we grind hard offensively and defensively

Q: Are there lessons you are taking from previous experience in ultimate that will help you this year?

A: In my previous experience playing ultimate, having fun and having good connections with all of my teammates has been really important to me and I will carry it into nationals.

Notable Players

  • The following players will be representing Canada in the U24 championships this coming summer: Mika Kurahashi, Madoka Wowk, Makenzi Harris, Jamie Jung, Amelie Marshall, Lauren Szeto-Fung, Mandy Li, Bryelle Wong.
  • In addition these players have represented Team Canada in the past: Madi Ong, Miu Shiraiwa, Ella Bolan, Nina Tsai, Isabella Lin, Mijoo Lee.
  • Ella Bolan is also representing Team USA in the U24 Championships.
