This weekend , the UBC Triathlon Sport Club will be taking another run at the team championship during the Toronto Triathlon Festival. After winning the team event in 2023 and the inaugural Canadian University Triathlon Championship last year, the team has set their sights yet again on the top prize.

Ethan Blake, a key member of the team, summed up the team’s current form and ambition stating “I think the team is feeling fabulous – we’ve had a strong off-season building up strong new athletes and continuing to develop our athletes who’ve been on the team for a while. We expect nothing less of ourselves than to excel on the racecourse, becoming three-time back-to-back national champions.”

While most of the team’s season is spent competing in and around BC, their trip to Toronto is becoming an annual highlight and showcase of how the team’s experience has quickly become a competitive advantage.

Blake shared that “the travel for most of our athletes adds another layer to race dynamics, giving our athletes a timeframe before race morning. A lot of our athletes have raced in Toronto before, some haven’t, and we want to bring up those who are new to the environment, so they feel like they know everything there is to know about the course and the competition before race time.”

The team is set to race on Sunday, July 27 with more than a few athletes to keep an eye on throughout the day:

While racing, each of the athletes will be chasing personal records and goals, the ultimate success for the team is to claim another national team title. To do so, they’ll be relying on athletes across both distances and male/female categories as the Canadian University Triathlon Championship is determined by cumulative calculations across the different disciplines.

Individual race results will be posted on the Toronto Triathlon Festival event page.
