T-Birds Triathlon SC Repeats as National Champions

Triathlon team celebrates their back-to-back win at the Canadian University Triathlon Championship.

It was an amazing day in Toronto this past Sunday at the Toronto Triathlon Festival, where 20 triathletes proudly raced and represented the UBC Thunderbird ultimately securing their second straight national championship.

Despite working against extreme heat and humidity from the onset of racing at 7:15 AM, the team left it all out on the race course against top university competition from across Canada, including Queen’s, Université de Montréal, Western, and the University of Toronto. It was the most competitive field the UBC team has experienced and they were congratulatory of all of the teams they raced against.

In the Olympic distance race, Owen Vincent delivered a phenomenal performance, finishing 2nd overall and 1st in the male collegiate division. April St. Pierre and Christina Howard continued the momentum, securing 2nd and 3rd in the female Olympic collegiate division. In the sprint distance, Jaime Harrington earned an impressive 2nd place finish in the female collegiate category.

This wraps up an incredible season for the Thunderbirds Triathlon Sport Club and the team is already looking forward to racing in Toronto again next year.
