Here’s what’s happening at Rec this January!


Free Week

January 5 – 11

Free Week is here! During Free Week you can try out a variety of fitness classes for free! Open to all UBC Students, UBC Staff & Faculty, and members of the public. No experience is required for any of the classes and all abilities are welcome! Please note Free Week only applies to fitness classes.


Intramurals First Agent Meeting

January 7 & 8

Join us at the SRC to meet like-minded individuals looking to form a team for Intramurals Leagues. Individuals who form a team at the meeting will have an opportunity to register on the spot.

January 7  | Women (Trans Women Welcome) teams 

  • 6:00 – 8:00PM – Volleyball, Futsal, Dodgeball,  Ultimate, Basketball, Soccer, Ice Hockey, and Flag Football.

January 8 | Open & Mixed teams

  • 6:00 – 7:30PM – Basketball, Soccer, Ice Hockey, and Flag Football
  • 8:00 – 9:30PM – Volleyball, Futsal, Dodgeball, Ice Hockey and Ultimate


Student Nights at the Aquatic Centre!

Thursdays at 8:00 PM, starting January 8

On Thursdays from 8:00 pm onwards, the Aquatic Centre hosts drop-in facility hours exclusively to UBC students! Whether you want to chill in the hot tub, relax in the sauna or play basketball in the leisure pool – do whatever floats your boat!


Intramural Leagues Registration Closes

January 9 @ 11:59PM

We are currently offering numerous intramural leagues this winter. Please note that our intramural leagues sell out fast – be sure to secure your spot! If you can’t find a team or need more people, attend the Free Agent Meetings on January 7 & 8!


 Women (Trans Women Welcome) & 2STNB Fitness Hours Start

January 12

Fitness hours for Women (Trans Women Welcome) & Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) return on January 12. These fitness hours will take place at the ARC Fitness Centre and will be supported by staff who identify as a woman or 2STNB. Feel empowered and gain the confidence you need to make physical activity part of your everyday routine!


Storm the Wall Reg Opens

January 12

Join us for one of UBC’s most iconic experiences! Participate as a competitive or just for fun team and complete the course as a relay, or challenge yourself to do the whole course on your own as an Iron Person. You will swim, sprint, bike, run, and Storm The Wall!  Embrace Tradition. Embrace the Spirit. Embrace the Storm.


On the Button Curling Bonspiel

January 18

HURRY HARD! Gather 4 friends and sweep those winter blues away with a fun night of curling. Whether it’s your first time on the ice or you’re a seasoned sweeper this tournament is a great way to try and Canadian national pastime. Registration closes on January 13!


Wellbeing Walk & Rolls

January 14 & 28

Join us for the first wellbeing walk & rolls of the year! Open to all UBC Students, Faculty & Staff and community members. On January 14, get cozy and join the Hot Chocolate Walk. On January 28, join us for a scavenger hunt! Participants will match the movie or tv show still to the famous filming locations right here on campus. Register now!


Water Wars

January 22

Looking for a fun filled night consisting of water based games and activities? Then come participate with us at Water Wars! This event is filled with non-stop action, guaranteed laughter, and moments you’ll remember throughout your time at UBC. Registration closes on January 19!


Walk for Joy Reg Close

January 26

Walk for Joy is an annual 9-week walking and rolling challenge that strives to promote regular physical activity in social settings. Register and join the challenge! Registration closes on January 26!


The Great Escape

January 29

This is not your typical escape room, this is The Great Escape! The whole of UBC campus is your playground where games, clues and people can be anywhere! Bring your brains and get ready for puzzles, games and challenges all designed to test you in ways you didn’t think possible. Registration closes on January 26!


Move More Learn More Reg Deadline

February 1

Move More, Learn More is a health program designed for women (trans women welcome). It includes a variety of health learning topics and private group physical activity sessions so that participants can try out new ways to move. Start your journey in health and fitness. Registration closes on February 1st!
