The UBC Aquatic Centre’s Annual Pool Closure will take place from Friday, March 27 at 5:00PM – Sunday, April 26 inclusive.
During this time, the UBC Aquatic Centre is closed to all guests. The closure is necessary to ensure that key systems of the facility are properly cleaned and serviced.
As a student employment centre, we do our best to support our working staff by closing during the exam season and this is done as a natural separation between school terms.
Membership and Product Sales Updates
4-month memberships will automatically be extended by the equivalent number of days during the annual closure.
1-year memberships and 10-visit passes are not adjusted as the annual closure is accounted for in the original purchase price.
1-month memberships will be temporarily unavailable from February 27 until the end of the annual closure.
The UBC Aquatic Centre is scheduled to re-open on Monday, April 27. All guests and facility users are encouraged to consult the facility schedule prior to any visit.
What Happens During the Closure?
The annual break provides an important opportunity to perform maintenance, updates, and cleaning that ensures the UBC Aquatic Centre can continue to serve the community for decades to come.
Some highlights of the work that’s performed during the closure include:
Overhaul of 7 large filters with 7,000 parts inspected, cleaned and re-assembled.
Over 1.9 million tiles inspected and maintained.
400m of deck drain lifted and cleaned.
Drained and refilled 5 million liters of water.
Servicing the filters for the rainwater cistern, allowing us to recapture 2.7 million litres of water annually.
