Return Trip to Nationals for Women’s Ultimate

The UBC Women’s Ultimate team is preparing to defend last year’s national championship title this weekend, May 22-25, in Rockford, Illinois. After a successful 24-5 campaign that saw them qualify for nationals via finishing first in the Northwest Regionals, the Thunderbirds will be a favourite heading into the tournament.

“The team is feeling motivated and excited heading into nationals. After a long season defined by hard work and grit, we are looking forward to showcasing what we are capable of on the national stage” says Lauren Szeto-Fung.

The team’s opening game is Friday, May 22 @ 10:30am CST against North Carolina. The first round features pool play with UBC matched up against Western Washington, Cal Poly, Michigan, and their opening game opponent, North Carolina.

Also of note at this weekend’s championship tournament is Mika Kurahashi up for the Callahan Award, which recognizes the most valuable player in college ultimate.
