We are excited to announce an exciting addition to the UBC Triathlon Duathlon! Adult Aquathlon will join our race offerings beginning in 2027.
Known for delivering a race experience on one of Canada’s most scenic campuses, the UBC Triathlon Duathlon has long welcomed athletes of all levels. The introduction of the Adult Aquathlon opens the door for even more participants to get involved.
What is an Aquathlon?
An aquathlon combines two disciplines: swimming and running. Participants will start with a swim segment 700m in the UBC Aquatic Centre, followed by a 5-kilometre run across campus’s beautiful Main Mall. Without the cycling component of a triathlon, the aquathlon discipline offers a streamlined but race format that is both accessible and challenging.

Expanding Opportunities for Participation
The addition of the Aquathlon reflects UBC Recreation’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and community engagement. By broadening its race offerings, the event invites new audiences, especially those who may be more comfortable in the water and on foot, to experience the excitement of race day.
Whether you’re:
- A swimmer looking to try multisport racing
- A runner interested in mixing up your competition format
- A beginner seeking a less equipment-intensive entry point
- Or a returning athlete looking for a fresh challenge
The Aquathlon provides a new way to get involved.

Looking Ahead to 2027
Registration opens on July 7 @ 1:00 PM.
