Plans for UBC’s New Bouldering Experience Revealed

The new bouldering experience at UBC is beginning to take shape. Having recently selected Montreal-based climbing firm, Nomad Walls, to design the features of the soon to be renovated BirdCoop, UBC shared some of its renderings and plans.

The renovated space features 207 linear feet of climbing terrain designed both to challenge experienced boulderers and introduce the sport to new people. The wall angles range from +4 (slab) to -61 (roof) including a sizable amount of steep overhang to optimize the climbing height. Three new feature areas will complement the original and beloved bouldering cave which will has been integrated into the new space.

As part of the project work, the existing bouldering cave will be closed as of Friday, July 17 through the remainder of summer 2026. The new bouldering facility is expected to open some time in fall 2026.
