Aquatics Drop-In

FACILITY CLOSURE:  Guests of the UBC Aquatic Centre are to be advised that the facility is currently closed to the public for the Annual Maintenance Shutdown Sunday December 9, 2019 to Sunday January 5th, 2020 inclusively.  This closure will permit UBC to complete regular preventative maintenance on the facility systems. Note, the UBC Aquatic Centre will be open on Monday January 6, 2020. 

Please note that our drop in schedules are subject to change. The times below indicate all public and length swim times available. All other times during the day are booked for UBC Aquatic Centre programs, UBC Varsity Swim Programs, the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre – Vancouver, and approved rental bookings.

Drop-In Schedules for the UBC Aquatic Centre

Our Aquatic Centre has three separate tanks that can accomodate a variety of programming options:

  • Leisure Pool and Hot Tub: The Leisure pool includes a lazy river and is accessible by a ramp. The Hot tub is accessible via a lift.
  • Recreation Pool: The Recreation pool is 25m by 25m, contains 2 diving boards, and is accessible via ramp.
  • Competition Pool: The Competition pool is 50m by 25m and is accessible via lift.

Public Swim Schedules

If you are a recreational swimmer, masters-level swimmer, or a triathlete, this program could be right for you. Leverage experienced coaches for an after-work coached session as well as priority access to morning and midday training times. Limited spots are available to maximize participant experience within the allocated training space and times. Join this training group and not only is your swimming likely to improve, but you’re also likely to become inspired by those around you.

All members of the Adult Swim Club gain access to one of the coached sessions per week (you will choose which one upon registration) and then you have unlimited access to the other training swim times.

What is the difference between Specialty and Drop-In classes? Drop-In classes are included with drop-in admission, a membership pass, or free with a valid UBC Student Card. Drop-In Swim Descriptions

Drop-in Aqua Fitness Classes are included with admission, a membership pass, or free with a valid UBC Student card. Purchase a membership pass to access the best rates.

Public Swim time is open to all ages. All children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or youth, at least 16 years of age, responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively swimming within arm’s reach at all times.

Staff and Faculty $2 Swim includes length swim for lap swimming only, and access to the steam room, sauna and hot tub areas. To participate, simply show your current UBC staff ID card at the front desk. All participants using the length swim lanes must use the lanes for active exercise, and abide by the slow, medium, and fast lanes signs. This Drop-In Staff & Faculty swim is offered in the Competition Pool.

Come test your aquatic racing skills on our inflatable obstacle course! Most often set up on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (pending availability), please check the drop-in calendar for available times. The Wibit is set up in the competition pool area which is located in deep water. For safety reasons, all participants wanting to race will need to complete a swim test.

Length Swim is for lap swim only and open to the general public. All public participants must use these lanes for active exercise and abide by the slow, medium, and fast lanes signs. The facility rules for children 7 and under still apply – see the Public Swim tab for more details.

Members Only Training Time is length swims in the competition pool alongside our High Performance teams. Most often it is in the early morning weekdays, check the drop-in calendar for available times. During this time the competition pool is a high performance environment so we ask all members who are participating in this program to use the lanes for swim training purposes only. No slow/medium lanes or water running space is available. Please check in with the front desk prior to entering the pool to receive a training program wristband.

A drop-in or membership includes access to all pools, steam and sauna when available during the time of your visit, drop-in fitness and drop-in therapy classes (excluding specialty classes) and access to the change rooms and amenities.

1Children under 3 years of age receive free access.
2Pool access is free for currently registered UBC Students with their UBC Card. Each student must scan their card each visit. There is a $5.00 charge for UBC Students who do not pay Athletics & Recreation fees or don’t have their card at time of visit.
3Family rate is listed per person for one or two parent household plus their children. Minimum one paying parent and one paying child.
4Non-peak hours occur Monday to Friday between 9:00am – 11:30am, 1:30 – 5:30pm, and 8:30pm – close. Non-peak hours occur Saturday to Sunday after 6:30pm.

Do you qualify for one of these discounted memberships? All discounted memberships including those for UNA members, CSC card holders, and UBC Staff & Faculty must be purchased in-person through the front desk with a valid ID card.

5A 10 Visit Card is valid till April 30 2020 and can only be purchased in-person from the UBC Aquatic Centre operations desk.
6A 1 Month Pass is valid for one (1) calendar month from the date of purchase.
7A 4 Month Pass is valid for four (4) calendar months from the date of purchase.
8The Year Pass is valid for the period of one (1) calendar from the date of purchase.
9Closures: Aquatic facilities are complex and require regular maintenance. There will be both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance closures that will occur within the year. Facility users can anticipate scheduled maintenance closures of 3-6 weeks over any 12-month period. No refunds, partial refunds or credits will be granted due to facility closures / access restrictions.

Get in the water when your child is in lessons! You can enjoy a discounted drop-in rate of $3.50 when your child is in swimming lessons to spend time in the drop-in swim areas, steam room, sauna, and access to the amenities that are open during the time of your child’s lesson. (Regular drop-in rate is $6.75). Show up at the front desk with your registered child to receive your discounted rate!
