Strength & Conditioning – Performance – Strength, Power, Speed Foundations

This camp is the perfect introduction to strength and conditioning! Movement competency is the foundation for long-term athletic development, and the combination of play and structured workouts will ensure skill development stays fun!

Start the day off right with a faced-pace hike through the forests surrounding UBC’s campus. Hiking will serve as an energetic warm-up that will also allow athletes to learn more about campus and their peers.

As the day progresses, campers will learn diverse fundamental movements aimed at developing strength, power and speed, while also preventing injury. Participants will be taught technique specific to each exercise in a structured manner, so as to ensure safety, develop confidence, and experience movement success. Campers will use age-appropriate workout equipment, such as dumbbells, kettle bells and exercise bands.

Each day, newly learned physical literacy skills will be incorporated into carefully designed obstacle courses. These unique courses will become more challenging as the week progresses, and encourage creativity and teamwork. On the last day, campers will compete for the prestigious UBC Camps Ultimate Obstacle Course record - a competition entering its fourth year! These courses will be complemented by other fun play-centred activities, designed to provide athletes with well-rounded movement competency.

This camp provides young athletes with fundamental tools to promote their long-term athletic development, in a camp environment that fosters intrinsic motivation and self-confidence. Athletes attending camp will continue to develop their passion for sport and physical activity. This camp is high energy, and your child will come home happy and tired!

Required Equipment: This camp will run outside, rain or shine, so please ensure weather-appropriate clothing is worn.

Location Details: This camp meets in Osbourne Parking Lot, on the west steps of Doug Mitchell Arena.

A digital copy of the consent form is completed during online registration. In-person or over the phone registration requires a paper copy be submitted prior to the first day of camp.
