Updates & Impacts Due to COVID-19 Safety Protocols

All persons age 12 and older are required to wear a face mask when indoors at UBC Sport Facilities except during physical activity.

Beginning September 13, proof of vaccination against COVID-19 will be required of all persons aged 12 and older for admittance to UBC Sport Facilities and participation in UBC Recreation and Thunderbirds Sport Club programs. Read about how to get your proof of vaccination as well as the facilities and programs that do not require proof of vaccination.

Please note that advanced registration is still required for most activities and admittance to UBC sport facilities. Registered patrons may also be accompanied by up to two spectating guests, facility capacity permitting. Spectators must arrive at the same time as the registered patron and there are no “in-and-out” privileges.

All visitors should continue to self-assess prior to your visit & please do not visit if you feel unwell.

Proof of COVID Vaccination Requirement

UBC students, faculty, and staff – Please note that the proof of vaccination requirement to access fitness centres, team sports, and other recreational activities is by order of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) and is distinct from UBC’s COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program and its declaration of vaccination status.

Access Change for ARC & SRC Beginning Sep 13

Starting September 13, access to the ARC & SRC facilities will be changed. SRC can only be entered via the north doors; ARC lower level only via the east stairwell.

No Spectators Permitted at the UBC Tennis Centre

In order to implement the proof of vaccination requirement beginning September 13, parent/guardian (s) of a child are not currently permitted to stay and spectate at the UBC Tennis Centre due to venue capacities; however, they may enter the facility and assist their child to prepare for lessons and programs.

No Spectators Permitted at the UBC Aquatic Centre

Although there is no proof of vaccination requirement at the UBC Aquatic Centre, please note that spectators are not currently permitted. A parent/guardian of a child under 8 years of age is permitted to accompany their child to the change room and to meet their lesson instructor for the purposes of registered swim lessons.

Safety Practices

Do a self-assessment, please stay at home if you are sick

Stay home if you have travelled internationally in the last 14 days

Advanced reservations and bookings required for most programs/activities

Face masks are required for ages 12 and older

Water fountains are limited to refilling of water bottles

Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow

Wash hands thoroughly & frequently

Use hand sanitizer if you are unable to wash your hands

Additional Safety Information

  • On-site, daily screening are no longer required, but please do not visit if you feel unwell.
  • In-person purchases or transactions are cashless and only credit (Mastercard or Visa) or debit is accepted.

Please note that swimming pools are specifically exempt from the proof of vaccination requirements under point L on page 3 of September 10’s revised Events & Gathering health order.

UBC Athletics & Recreation is also reviewing refunds and credits to anyone registered for classes, memberships, and rentals during this period. Communication about refunds and credits will be communicated to affected individuals via email.
