The SRC gyms are open  for table tennis, badminton and basketball with specific conditions for participation. The SRC Studio is available for dance, martial arts practice, or functional use. Reservations required.

Things to Know

  1. Registration 
    • Participants are now required to pre-register for all drop-in sports and studio time; on-site registration is not available.
    • Registration is limited to one drop-in session per day for each individual.
    • Registration opens 24 hours before the start of each session time.
    • Each participant is to register individually, group registrations are not permitted.
  2. Equipment
    • SRC Drop-In Sports
      • Participants will be required to bring their own sporting equipment as there will be no equipment available for rentals.
      • There will be table tennis balls and birdies for sale at the sign-in desk. See available equipment
    • Studio Drop-In 
      • No punching bags or equipment will be available for use.
  3. Amenities
    • SRC washrooms will be open, but change rooms, showers, lockers, and water fountains will not be available in either facility. 

  1. Drop-in Structure
    • Drop-in sessions are one hour long, with a 15 minute cleaning break in between.
    • SRC Drop-In Sports
      • Racquet sports – Only one versus one play is allowed, no doubles play.
      • Basketball – Only individual play is permitted. No 1-on-1 or multiplayer competition.
    • Studio Drop-In 
      • No partner workouts and/or routines are allowed at this time.
      • Participants must remain within their designated studio pod.

      • The SRC gymnasiums have a limit of 24 individuals allowed in it at one time. 
    • Studio Drop-In 
      • The Studio has a limit of 3 individuals allowed in it at one time. 
  3. Entering/Exiting the Facility
    • The SRC will have designated laneways in which you will need to follow when entering and exiting the facility.
    • Participants will enter the SRC through the North doors. 

Registration

UBC Recreation is using a new registration system beginning May 2020; an online login will be required for all activities. If you have not recently set up a new login, please follow the link below to set up a new online login.

UBC Students – please ensure that you have activated your login using your CWL in order to qualify for student rates and free access to the UBC Aquatic Centre and SRC drop-in activities.

SRC Drop-in Sports 

  • Drop-in activities at the Student Recreation Centre are free of charge for UBC Students, UBC Faculty & Staff, CSC or UNA Card members
    • All other participants are required to pay a fee of $6.00 per session
    • All participants must register online regardless of their affiliation. 
  • CSC and UNA Card members are required to verify their affiliation prior to qualifying for discounted rates. 
  • Participants who live in the same household are encouraged to register to play against one another whenever possible. 
  • Each participant is to register individually, group registrations are not permitted.

Studio Drop-In

  • Drop-in activities at the Student Recreation Centre are free of charge for UBC Students, UBC Faculty & Staff, CSC or UNA Card members
    • All other participants are required to pay a fee of $6.00 per session
    • All participants must register online regardless of their affiliation. 
  • CSC and UNA Card members are required to verify their affiliation prior to qualifying for discounted rates. 
  • There will be no access from the fitness centres, participants must register for studio time separately.
  • The Studio has a limit of 3 individuals allowed in it at one time.

Safety Practices

Stay at home if you are sick

Stay home if you have travelled internationally in the last 14 days

Advanced reservations and bookings required for all programs/activities.

Non-medical face masks required when indoors except when exercising

Signs and pathways for designated entrances, exits, line-ups, and traffic throughout buildings

Change rooms & lockers closed. Come dressed for your activity.

Water fountains are limited to refilling of water bottles.

Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow

Avoid touching your face

Wash hands thoroughly & frequently

Use hand sanitizer if you are unable to wash your hands

Maintain a physical distance of 2m from others

Additional Information – Drop-In Studio Time

  • Participants must remain within their designated studio pod while within the studio that is 3×3 metres to maintain social distancing.
  • Music can be played through personal speakers for dance practice, however volume must be kept at a minimum
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times.
  • No head spins.

Additional Information – Drop-In Sports

  • Racquet sports
    • Participants are required to stay at their assigned court during play, and are not allowed to change courts or playing partners. 
    • Participants are to not touch other players table tennis balls or birdies, but instead use their racquet to roll/scoop their partners birdie back to them.
    • Each participant will have a coloured or marked birdie/ball to identify which is theirs, and those are the only birdies/balls they are allowed to touch.
  • Basketball
    • Only one (1) indiviudal per hoop.
    • Basketball participants should refrain touching other basketballs.

What to Expect

Arriving/Exiting the Facility & Sign-In/Sign-Out

  • Participants should arrive at the SRC 10 minutes prior to the start of their session to allow for sign-in and COVID-19 pre-screen questions. Late arrivals will not be permitted access to the registered program.
  • When signing-in: SRC drop-in sports participants will be assigned a court number to play on and have the option to purchase a pair of birdies or table tennis balls at the sign-in desk.
  • When signing-in: studio drop-in time participants will be assigned a designated studio pod.
  • SRC drop-in sports participants will exit through the North doors of the SRC gymnasium. Participants are not able to exit back through the SRC.
  • Studio drop-in time participants will exit through the west exit. 

Required Equipment – Drop-In Sports

  • Participants will be required to bring their own sporting equipment such as: racquets, paddles, table tennis balls, birdies, ect…
  • There will be no equipment available for rentals, but there will be table tennis balls and birdies for sale at the sign-in desk that will vary in colour to ensure there is no cross contamination during play. 
  • In-person purchases or transactions are cashless and only credit (Mastercard or Visa) or debit is accepted.

Available Amenities 

  • SRC washrooms will be open, but change rooms, showers, lockers, and water fountains will not be available in either facility. 
  • The second floor washrooms will be open for drop-in sports use.
  • Participants are advised to arrive ready to play/dressed, and will be required to keep belongings with them.
  • All water fountains will be closed. If needed, please refill your water bottle at a tap in a washroom.

Additional Information 

  • Physical distancing will be practiced whenever possible, including: maintaining distance between staff and participants.
  • Wearing a mask is a personal choice, and while not required, guests are welcome to wear one.
  • Please note there will be no benches or seating area in the gymnasium at this time.

Daily Health Screening

All persons visiting UBC facilities or taking part in a program must be able to answer “no” to all of the following questions:

Have you, or members of your household, experienced any flu-like or cold symptoms within the last 14 days?

Have you, or members of your household, had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or is awaiting COVID-19 test results within the last 14 days?

Have you, or members of your household, travelled internationally within the last 14 days, including to the USA?

  • If the answer is “yes” to any question on arrival, they will not be allowed to attend any programs for health and safety reasons. A supervisor will follow-up with them through phone or email to issue a credit for programs that are missed.
  • Translated written copies of pre-screening questions will be available to ensure language is not a barrier to understanding and adherence to health and safety measures.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

 

SRC washrooms will be open, but lockers and showers will be closed. There will be limited water fountains access for refilling water bottles only. 

As of September 8, a face covering or non-medical face mask is required when indoors at UBC Sport Facilities except when exercising or engaging in physical activity.

All participants will still need to register online regardless of card holding status. Drop-In at the Student Recreation Centre is free of charge for UBC Students, UBC Staff/Faculty, CSC or UNA Card members, or by paying the $6.00 drop-in fee.
