Things to Know

  • COVID-19 safety practices
    • Players must bring their own racket, balls and water bottle. No rental equipment available.
    • Each player should use their own tennis balls with distinct numbers or identify their tennis balls with a marker. 
    • Cans of tennis balls are available for purchase at the Front Desk.
    • No changeovers/switching ends permitted. Players must remain on the same side of the court for the entirety of the booking. 
  • Registration 
    • Participants are now required to pre-register for all programs
    • You may only register for one program per day.
    • Adult high performance clinics and Competitive Youth programs are open for over the phone registrations. Please call the Tennis Centre at 604 822 2505.
    • Perk Passes are not activated or available for purchase upon the immediate opening of the facility.
  • Sign-in/sign-out
    • Entry is through the North doors of the UBC Tennis Centre.
    • Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before the scheduled court booking or private lesson. If players arrive early, they will be asked to wait outside.
  • Amenities
    • Shower facilities, change rooms, water fountains, stringing services and ball machines are unavailable. 
  • Court Bookings
    • All bookings are in 75-minute fixed time slots. There is a 15-minute break in between each booking. 
    • Only one court booking can be reserved during a 24-hour window.
    • During the initial reopening, singles play is permitted and preferred. Doubles play is permitted only where players are from the same household or the same consistent, small social bubble.
  • Private Lessons
    • All lessons are available for one-on-one instruction.
    • Players interested in private lessons must fill out a request form.
    • Once the request form is submitted, players are placed on a wait list and are contacted when a coach is available.

Registration

UBC Recreation is using a new registration system beginning May 2020; an online login will be required for all activities. If you have not recently set up a new login, please follow the link below to set up a new online login.

UBC Students – please ensure that you have activated your login using your CWL in order to qualify for student rates and free access to the UBC Aquatic Centre and SRC drop-in activities.

Court Bookings

  • All bookings are in 75-minute fixed time slots. There is a 15-minute break in between each booking.
  • Players interested in court rentals are required to book online using their UBC Recreation login. In-person registration is be available at this time.
  • Only Visa, Mastercard or debit payment is accepted at this time.
  • Credit will be issued upon request for individuals unable to attend due to a COVID-19 related reason.
  • For optimal experience with the new system, please use the Google Chrome browser when searching, registering or booking courts. Not all features may work as intended with other browsers.

 

Private Lessons

  • Players interested in private lessons must fill out a request form.
  • Once the request form is submitted, players are placed on a wait list and are contacted when a coach is available.
  • Only Visa, Mastercard or debit payment is accepted at this time.
  • The UBC Tennis Centre is open by appointment only. In-person registration will not be available.

Fall Tennis Programs

  • Available programs include youth lessons, Competitive and Performance programs, and adult lessons.
  • Advanced, online registration is required.
  • Adult high performance clinics and Competitive Youth programs are open for over the phone registrations. Please call the Tennis Centre at 604 822 2505.
  • Youth Performance program registration is by approval only. Please join the waitlist for more information here.

Safety Practices

Stay at home if you are sick

Non-medical face masks required when indoors except when exercising

Signs and pathways for designated entrances, exits, line-ups, and traffic throughout buildings

Change rooms & lockers closed. Come dressed for your activity.

Water fountains are limited to refilling of water bottles.

Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow

Avoid touching your face

Wash hands thoroughly & frequently

Use hand sanitizer if you are unable to wash your hands

Maintain a physical distance of 2m from others

Additional Information

  • Players must bring their own racket, balls and water bottle. No rental equipment available.
  • Wearing a mask is a personal choice, and while not required, guests are welcome to wear one.

What to Expect

Court Bookings & Private Lessons

Arriving/Exiting the Facility & Sign-In/Sign-Out
  • Entry is through the North doors of the UBC Tennis Centre.
  • Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before the scheduled court booking or private lesson. If you arrive early, you will be asked to wait outside.
  • Players check in with UBC Tennis Centre staff to verify their time slot and playing partner upon entering. 
  • When signing-in players will: complete the Covid-19 pre-screen questions, sign a paper waiver, and be directed to their booked court. Players have the option to purchase a tube of tennis balls at the sign-in desk. 
  • Once the sign-in is complete, participants are required to wait in the lobby until the previous group leaves the court.
Required Equipment
  • Players must bring their own racket, balls and water bottle. No rental equipment available.
  • Tennis balls are available for purchase from the front desk.

Youth Lessons

Arriving/Exiting the Facility and Sign-In/Sign-Out
  • For drop-off/pick-up, please limit to ‘one caregiver per child’ to avoid additional people during busy periods.
  • Each lesson group has a designated sign-in and sign-out location at the entrance to the Tennis Centre (will be outdoors weather pending).
  • Youth are required to stay with their parent/guardian in line until sign-in is complete, and stay with the camp group until sign-out procedures are completed by their caregiver.
  • Sign-in/sign-out will be touchless. Only coaches will touch the attendance clipboard and a plexi-glass barrier will be used between staff and caregivers when checking photo ID at the time of pick-up.

Amenities

  • Stringing services and ball machines are unavailable. 
  • Participants should arrive ready to play, and are required to bring all belongings on the courts.
  • There are no benches on the courts at this time.

Daily Health Screening

All persons visiting UBC facilities or taking part in a program must be able to answer “no” to all of the following questions:

Have you, or members of your household, experienced any flu-like or cold symptoms within the last 14 days?

Have you, or members of your household, had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or is awaiting COVID-19 test results within the last 14 days?

Have you, or members of your household, travelled internationally within the last 14 days, including to the USA?

  • If the answer is “yes” to any question on arrival, they will not be allowed to attend any programs for health and safety reasons. A supervisor will follow-up with them through phone or email to issue a credit for programs that are missed.
  • Translated written copies of pre-screening questions will be available to ensure language is not a barrier to understanding and adherence to health and safety measures.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Stand-alone washrooms will be open, but showers and water fountains will be closed. Please bring a filled water bottle with you during your visit to the facility.

Spectators – including parents/guardians – are not permitted.
