Pickleball Available at SRC Gyms

Drop-in sessions for pickleball are now available on Wednesdays and Fridays at the SRC. Equipment rental including paddles and pickleballs may be borrowed from the SRC front desk in exchange for a piece of ID.

Gymnasium drop-in sports include regular sessions of volleyball, basketball, badminton, futsal and more. These activities are free for UBC students, faculty, and staff. CSC and UNA residents as well as the public are welcome to participate with a fee.

When attending a drop-in sport session, please visit the front desk to sign-in and receive a wristband. The wristband must be worn throughout the duration of a drop-in sports session.

Online Reservations & Access

Some activities are available for reservations using the online registration system. These sessions help ensure entry to visitors during peak periods.

  • REGISTER - Online registration is required. If capacity permits walk-in guests, they will be asked to complete their booking using the online registration.
  • DROP-IN - Entry is first-come, first-serve and subject to venue capacity.
Activities
  Description

Badminton
  • Singles matches (1-v-1) or doubles matches (2-v-2)
  • Participants must rotate off the court when their match is finished, or after 15 minutes of gameplay has elapsed.

Basketball
  • 5-v-5 basketball games are allowed, and games can be played on the full court, or using half court rules.
  • Organized games must be respectful of individuals wishing to practice shooting or other drills and leave sufficient space to practice.
Cricket
  • 8-11 players per team
  • Adapted indoor rules:
    • 1 innings per team
    • 6 overs per innings (teams must switch bowlers after each over)
    • 6 balls (throws or deliveries) per over.
  • Games must be kept to a maximum of 30 minutes.

Futsal (indoor soccer)
  • Sessions are offered in 5-v-5 games with teams rotating after 15 minutes have elapsed, or when one team has scored 10 goals.
  • A maximum of 4 teams (20 participants) are permitted per gymnasium.

Table Tennis
  • Singles or doubles play is permitted.
  • Table tennis sessions are at the SRC.

Volleyball
  • 6-v-6 volleyball games with teams required to rotate off the court after a match is finished, or after 30 minutes have elapsed.

1 To qualify for the UBC Student rate, a UBC Student must be enrolled in courses and paying/paid the Athletics & Recreation student fee. A delay of up to 24 hours after connecting a UBC Recreation login with a UBC CWL may occur before UBC Students are eligible for student rates and programs.

Rates are effective May 1, 2025 through April 30, 2026.

Rules
  • All participants are required to check in at the front desk and wear a wristband during the entirety of the drop-in sports activity.
  • Participants should remain in the sport/gym that they signed into.
  • Clean indoor shoes are required.
  • No food or drink permitted in the SRC gymnasiums with the exception of water.
Equipment Rentals
  • Participants must bring their own equipment, or provide a valid ID at the front desk to exchange for equipment.  
  • Current available equipment: badminton racquets, basketballs, volleyballs, futsal balls, table tennis racquets, and table tennis balls.
  • Badminton shuttlecocks are available for purchase.
  • Borrowed equipment must be returned, and any lost or damaged items will result in a fee being charged.
