Saran

Saran is a certified trainer and nutrition coach with ISSA, and is currently a second-year student in UBC’s Natural Resource Conservation Program. His introduction to fitness and weight-lifting started with running track and field in high school. Eventually he moved onto calisthenics, higher intensity exercise, and yoga as a way of optimizing his gut, circulation, and respiratory health.

He uses an adaptive approach beginning with emphasis on fundamental movement and core strength, and seeks to
challenge his clients to usurp their own self-expectations.

Fun fact: He uses an anime opening playlist specifically for workouts where he really needs motivation.

Olivia

Olivia is a 3rd year Psychology student currently on exchange from the UK. She is a qualified personal trainer and nutrition coach, as well as a gymnastics coach. Growing up as a gymnast herself, Olivia has a long background in elite sport and loves using her experiences to help others in their fitness journey. Since stopping competitive gymnastics, she has tried a variety of training styles from CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting to Running and Pilates.

Olivia is passionate about helping individuals find a training style they love, so fitness feels less of a chore. She places particular value on fitness being a ‘journey’ and recognises the ups and downs but aims to teach her clients habits that create a more sustainable healthy lifestyle. For her exercise isn’t just about the physical improvements but the benefits to mental health.

Fun fact: She got an audition for Nina Warrior UK.

Kennedy

Kennedy is a 3rd year UBC Arts student and a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified trainer. Her passion for strength training developed through home workouts during the lockdown, where she gained an appreciation for the social and mental benefits of exercise.

Kennedy’s areas of expertise includes strength and resistance training, as well as endurance training. Kennedy takes a bodyneutral approach, focusing on non-weight focused metrics during training. She aims to support her
clients in achieving their greatest athletic abilities through evidence-based fitness planning.

Fun fact: You may see Kennedy running around campus as she trains for various half and full marathons!

Cora Nelson

Cora has trained extensively in ballet, tap, modern, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop since the age of three. She has completed numerous examinations in the Imperial Society of Teacher’s of Dance (ISTD) syllabi in Tap and Ballet. Cora has also completed all the ISTD Modern Theatre exams from Grade 1 to Advanced 2, receiving a mark of distinction at each level. At 17, Cora graduated from the Coast Academy of Dance’s three-year Pre-Professional Program, and received her ISTD Associate in Modern Theatre. Cora is highly involved in the UBC dance community, and continues to dance competitively with Dance Horizon’s DHCollective team as part of the hip-hop division. 

Cora is also a fitness enthusiast with a passion for strength-training and group fitness. She is a certified Barre Fitness instructor through the International Ballet Barre Fitness Association’s (IBBFA) Barre Certification program, and is also certified in Barre Level 2, Barre for Special Populations, and Ballerobica. Cora is also a HIGH Fitness, HIGH Low, and HIGH Yo certified instructor. Cora’s classes are energetic and light-hearted, and her goal is to help her students discover the joy of movement in an inclusive, supportive, and fun-loving environment.

Cecilia

Cecilia is a UBC Land and Food Systems alumni and an American Council of Exercise (ACE) certified trainer. She pursued personal training because she firmly believes that one’s health is their greatest wealth, and fitness has the power to transform lives. She aims to inspire her clients to tap into their inner strength to achieve their goals and make the lifestyle changes they want.

Cecilia specializes in strength, weight loss & resistance training using a client-centered approach, focusing on client’s goals
and needs to ensure an effective, sustainable, and fun experience.

Fun fact: If she is not at the gym, she is usually asleep.

Carlos Moreno

Carlos Moreno, from Aguascalientes, Mexico, is a seasoned Zumba instructor with 11+ years of dance experience. Sharing his passion for dance globally brings him immense joy. Carlos has led massive classes, showcasing his skills, and connecting with participants. His approach combines fun, progressive teaching for fitness, supported by certifications in Zumba rhythms 1 and 2, Zumba Sentao, Zumba Virtual Pro, Strong Nation, and as a NASM AFAA instructor.

Amir

Amir is a 1st year Neuroscience student and an American Council of Exercise (ACE) certified trainer and dotFIT certified nutritionist. His athletic career started with Taekwondo, where he earned a black belt at the age of 10. He then excelled as a semi-pro soccer player in Vancouver’s HPL division. He then went on to compete in natural bodybuilding competitions at the age of 17.

Amir specializes in weight training with a focus on strength and hypertrophy. By using a holistic approach, he tries to motivate his clients to excel both physically and spiritually throughout their fitness journey!

Fun fact: He has watched ‘The Office’ 12 times!
