Fitness Centres Rules
- UBC Card or UBC Recreation Card is required for entry and must be given to staff to scan.
- No food, gum, or drinks except water are permitted.
- Backpacks, bags, umbrellas, skateboards, etc. are not permitted in fitness centres.
Apparel Rules
- No jeans or jean shorts allowed.
- Proper athletic shoes and workout clothes must be worn when in the fitness centres.
Equipment Rules
- Do not move equipment between floors or remove equipment from the fitness centres.
- Small equipment can be requested from the fitness centre desks by asking a staff member for use in exchange for an ID, and then must be returned after use.
- Only use equipment on which you have been given proper instruction on.
- Please report any equipment malfunctions to the staff immediately to ensure the safety of all patrons.
Proper Etiquette
- Ask staff for assistance if you are unsure how to use a machine or piece of equipment.
- Use bar collars/clips on all bars at all times – please ask floor staff for them.
- Use of personal chalk is allowed at the Olympic platforms.
- Do not drop weights except on the Olympic platforms.
- Only bumper plates are allowed to be used on the Olympic platforms.
- Put away all your weights and plates after use.
- Wipe down all equipment and benches before and after use to be respectful of the next person to use that piece of equipment.
- Keep your workout area clear.
- Please respect time limits listed for specific areas of the fitness centres such as the free weights, stretching, and squat racks and platform areas.
- Do not work out between people using benches.
- Please limit your cardio use to 30 minutes (20 minutes at peak times).
- If you feel faint or dizzy, stop, sit down and ask for assistance.
Group Fitness Rules & Etiquette
Online Reservations
Reservations open 24 hours before class time and must be made in advance.
- Members with Group Fitness access can reserve a spot for free.
- Reservations with a paid drop-in fee are available if you do not have an applicable membership.
- If you cannot make a class, please cancel your reservation online.

✔️ Check in directly at the class location 5–10 minutes before class begins.
❌ Once a class has started, entry is not guaranteed. After 5 minutes, late arrivals will not be permitted.
