Welcome to Adaptive Sports

Wheelchair Floorball Edition

Adaptive sports are sports for people with and without disabilities. Adaptive sports use modifications of rules or equipment that allow for equitable participation in sport by people with disabilities. Every year at UBC, we host an Adaptive Sports Day. This year we will be highlighting wheelchair floorball, featuring the BC Wheelchair Floorball Association and Team Canada’s wheelchair floorball team captain, Kyle Gieni.

Wheelchair floorball is a fast and entertaining sport. It is exactly how it sounds, floorball played in a wheelchair. It is played in a match between two teams consisting of five field players and a goalkeeper on the court at one time. The aim of the game is to score more goals than the opposite team within the limits of the rules.

BC Wheelchair Floorball Association & Kyle Gieni

The BC Wheelchair Floorball Association is committed to providing recreation wheelchair floor hockey to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of persons with disabilities. Kyle Gieni has played a key organizing role in developing this sport in Canada. Kyle has been playing and advocating for the sport for many years, and is a determined contributor to the promotion of physical activity.
