About the Team
Starting from grassroots beginnings, the UBC Thunderbirds Squash Sport Club has grown into a thriving community of competitive players. We cultivate a tight-knit team of women’s and men’s athletes, valuing mutual respect, hard work, and the drive to improve. With professional coaching and training in world class facilities we aim to send our players to provincial and national championships.Â
It is the goal of the club to provide access to squash for competitive athletes at UBC. Our players will have the ability to train, travel, and compete where no opportunities for students existed before. Our vision is for an inclusive community of individuals who share the same passion for squash to proudly represent UBC across BC and Canada. See you on court!

Squash has a long history at UBC. Many alumni living in Vancouver remember when UBC had a strong competitive team in the 80’s and 90’s, many of whom discovered the sport for the first time and made lifelong friendships. However, as the squash facilities at UBC were slowly decommissioned, access and interest in squash dwindled. Initially, our goal was to facilitate access to squash for interested students. We began in 2024 as an AMS club hosting weekly drop-ins at a local facility, providing free equipment and charging low fees. To our surprise and delight, in a single day we registered over 60 members. Since then we have expanded our aims to include participating in competitions and building a team. We have sent players to two provincial and national championships, and had members participate in over 10 local tournaments. With our induction into the TSC program, we’re focused on rebuilding competitive squash at UBC and providing high-performance athletes with a community and place to continue honing their sport.
