Share a healthy lunch with your Sports Week Team via zoom! Connect with your team (or as many members as you can) over lunch to discuss nutrition and healthy eating. The objective is to learn about intuitive eating, and take a picture of your team sharing a healthy lunch together!
*Please be mindful that some team members may be observing Ramadan. We encourage you to still connect over a social hour without food or drink!

Triviatastic!
Individual Activity | Synchronous | Social | 30 Minutes
Join us for a fun zoom trivia and compete under the name of your team! Find out which team member has the best trivia skills while learning some new fun facts. The objective is to have one team member participate in the Trivia challenge!
* The questions for each trivia session are the same, you are to only attend one session.

Soak up the Sun
Individual Activity | Asynchronous | Physical – Low | 30 Minutes
Take a break in the sunshine – find time in your week to relax, destress, read a book, enjoy someone else’s company online, or meditate while soaking in some sunrays for 30 minutes! The objective is to have one team member take a selfie outdoors while doing an activity they enjoy!
*Make sure to adhere to all provincial health guidelines, and stay local while practicing safe social distancing.

Virtual Escape Room
Individual or Team Activity | Synchronous | Mental & Social | 45 Minutes
Join us for an Avengers themed virtual escape room! An escape room is a series of puzzles, riddles, online games, and brain teasers that you need to solve. The objective is to join and complete or get as far as you can in the virtual escape room. You won’t be put with your team, but will be a great way to meet new faculty and staff at UBC.

Guess-Timation Station
Team Activity | Asynchronous | Mental
This event will determine who will be this years’ Staff & Faculty Sport Week Overall Winners. View the Guess-Timation Station challenge video and guesstimate how many balls are within the bag. The objective is to guess the correct number of balls in the bag with your team!
*To be eligible to win and have your team’s name engraved on your campus’s trophy you must be a competitive team and complete all challenges. Just for fun teams are welcome to participate.
Submitting Results:

Say Cheese!
Team Activity | Asynchronous | Social
Don’t take this challenge lightly! Gather your team virtually to take a photo, or put individual team member photos together to showcase your best UBC spirit. The objective is to gather your team and take a photo while showing as much UBC Spirit as possible. Get creative and have fun!
Equipment Needed
- Computer/Phone
Rules:
- Must include the whole team
- Photos can be taken virtually (over Zoom, Microsoft Teams or however you want)
Submitting Results:
- Submit your team photo onto the Sports Week Results Form by Tuesday, May 4, by 12pm.
- Photos will be showcased, and top photos will be awarded extra spirit points!
Active Talent Show
Individual Activity | Asynchronous | Physical – Low Intensity | 15-20 Minutes
Show us your trick shot or activity talent! This activity is whatever you want to make it. Nothing is off limits and we encourage you to be as innovative as possible. It can be using classic sports equipment or any household items. The objective is to have one team member complete an exciting trick shot or activity talent!
* Please only perform a trick/activity safely within your own comfort level and ability.
Trick Shot:
To complete a trick shot, use items in your home or office that you throw into the air and have the item fall/land into something else. For example: toss a ping pong ball over your shoulder and into a bowl, or throw a tennis ball into a pail, etc.
Activity Talent:
For an activity talent, think of a talent that you can perform with classic sports equipment or household items. This can be anything from juggling, hula hoop tricks, playing an instrument, falling dominos course, or whatever you want to show us!
Equipment Needed :
- Whatever equipment you require to complete your trick shot or hidden talent
- Camera to film with (optional)
- Open and safe space to perform the trick/activity

- Optional: upload a 30-60 second video of your talent or trick shot into the Sports Week Qualtrics form.
Scavenger Hunt
Team Activity | Asynchronous | Physical & Mental – Low
Find letters around your local neighbourhood to spell out “Sports Day”. The objective is for team members to each go out on their own and search within their local neighborhood while practicing safe physical distancing, and find objects or letters to take a selfie/picture with to spell out “S-P-O-R-T-S D-A-Y”.
Equipment needed:
- Camera phone
Rules:
- No duplication of letters (i.e., the multiple ‘S’ in Sports Day needs to have a different picture)
- Cannot be letters within your household (i.e., you must leave your home)

Mindful Moment
Individual Activity | Synchronous | Mental – Low | 10 – 15 Minutes
Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. The objective of this challenge is to have one member of your team complete at least one live meditation class.

Ready & Steady
Individual Activity | Asynchronous |Physical – Low | 1 Minute
Get ready to test your balance! The objective is to have one team member balance on one foot or limb for as long as they can.
Checklist of skill criteria for balancing on one leg (static balance):
- Level one: Support leg still, foot flat on ground
- Non-support leg bent, not touching support leg
- Can balance on either leg
- Eyes focused forward
- Head and trunk stable and upright
- Arms still, may be extended for extra balance
- Level two: Next, try your non-dominant leg
- Level three: If this is too easy, try closing your eyes
- Level four: with eyes closed, on non-dominant leg, reach out and balance an egg/ball/object on a spoon
*Note: Stage 2, 3, and 4 are optional and should be done at your own risk (please be safe). For more fun, complete this challenge over zoom with your teammates!
Equipment Needed :
A flat surface, and open space to balance with little to no objects in the case of falling.

Move U, Move More!
Individual Activity | Synchronous | Physical – Low & Medium | 10 Minutes
Participate in a live Movement Break with the UBC Move U Crew. There will be different offerings each day to accommodate all schedules, and a special session on Wednesday by UBC HR highlighting office ergonomics. Each break will consist of a mixture of stretches and light exercises to help break up your work day. The objective is to have one team member participate in a movement break with the Move U Crew!
*Participate and modify at your own comfortability – the exercises and stretches can be modified to fit any ability or physicality.

- ‘The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines not only suggest 150 min. of physical activity per week, but also breaking up sedentary behaviour throughout your day. How are you feeling after your movement break? How might you and your team incorporate more movement breaks into your weekly routines?’

Mind-Body Connect (Tai Chi or Yoga)
Individual Activity | Asynchronous | Physical – Low & Medium | 30 Minutes
Try out a virtual Tai Chi or Yoga class on your own time. The objective is to have one team member complete a pre-recorded Tai Chi or Yoga class.
*Participate and modify at your own comfortability.
Equipment needed:
- Space to do Tai Chi or Yoga, and clothing you can be active in.
Rules:
- Your participant must complete the entire class (25-30 minutes)

Dance Like No One’s Watching
Individual or Team Activity | Asynchronous | Physical – Low Intensity | 10 Minutes
Bust out your best dance skills! Dance like Phoebe (if you know what that Friends reference is), make up your own dance, or if you wish to prepare for next year’s Move UBC practice the Cha Cha Slide! The objective is to have fun dancing alone or virtually as a team!
Equipment Needed:
- Camera to record with (optional)

- Record the name of the song you danced to onto the Sports Week Results Form by Thursday, May 6, by 12pm.
- Optional: upload a 10-20 second video of you or your team dancing into the Sports Week Results form.
ISPARC Pound Class
Individual or Team Activity | Synchronous | Physical – Low | 30 Minutes
Try out a new fitness trend that incorporates movement with drumsticks! Pound is a great way to move our bodies using drumsticks, release stress, and is adaptable to any fitness level. Best of all, it is fun! The objective is to join with your team, or as an individual (only one team member needs to attend) the Zoom fitness class, and follow along at your own pace sitting or standing to the drumming moves in the class.
*Participate and modify at your own comfortability. This class can be done either sitting or standing.

- Drumsticks or other banging utensil such as wooden spoons, plastic mini hockey sticks or empty paper towel rolls. You can also use your hands!
- Comfortable clothing to move in
- Space to safely move without hitting anything

Get Your Sweat On
Individual Activity | Synchronous | Physical – Medium/High Intensity | 30 Minutes
Join us for a fun zoom workout where participants can compete in quick exercises and challenge themselves to be the best! This class will be an at home no equipment workout routine led by one of UBC Recreation Personal Trainer. This will be an all-levels workout, with modifications for various fitness levels. The objective is to have one team member join one of the virtual workouts, and get some exercise in while motivating others around you!
*Participate and modify at your own comfortability, and take breaks if you need to.

You will be challenged to see how many jumping jacks / steps outs you can do in 15 seconds. Input the total number into the Sports Week Results Form by Thursday, May 6, by 12pm.
Walk, Roll, Run
Team Activity | Asynchronous | Physical – Low/Medium/High Intensity
As a team throughout the week, attempt to walk, roll, or run as far as you can during your daily activities to bridge the distance from UBC Okanagan to UBC Vancouver! Using a step tracker such as a pedometer, Fitbit, or step counting apps on your phone, submit your total number of steps for the week of your entire team. The objective is to calculate your teams’ total number of steps from the week, to see if your team can walk the distance from UBC Okanagan to UBC Vancouver (408km).
* For individuals who are in wheelchairs or other wheeled yet human powered devices, use this conversion chart for distance rolled to steps.
