Fall Adult Tennis Programs
Note: all prices do not include GST.
Unsure of what the numbers in the program name mean? We use the North American and Tennis Canada number scale where players rate themselves between a 1.0 to 7.0 (beginner to advanced). Before registering for any of our programs, please ensure that you find the level that best describes your general level of play during a match. If you are unsure of your level, please consult the self-rating guide, talk with your coach, or contact our reception desk.
Adult Clinics
Starting Tennis? This course will introduce players to the rules, scoring and positioning in singles and doubles play. The most basic introduction of all strokes (serve, volley, and groundstrokes) will be taught, focusing on impact point and proper court positioning. By the conclusion of the session, participants will know how to start and play points using the serve and return.
This course is designed to help participants improve their consistency by focusing on the impact point and proper footwork. Players will further develop the skills and ball control necessary to challenge opponents in common situations including groundstrokes, serves and returns, approach shots, and net play within 3/4 court. Participants will be taught how to receive a variety of shots including deep, short, and wide situations. This course is for players at the 2.0 level, or for those who have successfully completed the Adult 1.0 Clinic.
Players will develop more advanced ball control and consistency, as well as tactics to better understand the fundamentals of court coverage in both singles and doubles play. Players will learn to apply basic spins and receive spin for groundstrokes, volleys and serves. This program is for players between the 2.5 and 3.0 level, or for those who have successfully completed an Adult 2.0 Clinic.
Players will learn to gain increased ball control and consistency, as well as tactics to better understand the fundamentals of court coverage in both singles and doubles play. The program will also focus on the offensive aspects of the game, including attacking, hitting balls on the rise, and finishing points at the net. Players will learn to apply basic spins and receiving spin for groundstrokes, volleys and serves. This program is for players level 3.5 to 4.0.
This is a brand new adult introduction to doubles play. This program is for people who have been introduced to the game of tennis, but don’t necessarily have consistency or control in their game or their strokes. It is a great way to meet new people and to learn new techniques and tactics for doubles play. Coaches will rotate games and play with clients to help with positioning and strategies to ensure players advance to the next level. This program is for players level 1.5 to 2.5. Come out and join in on the fun!

The UBC Tennis drills sessions are a great way to get a lot of repetition on each stroke and build confidence. The drills sessions are designed to put players through intense physical workouts with an emphasis on technique. The sessions are high-paced and physically challenging. This is a perfect way to take your game to the next level. Each session will be broken down in to three 30-min phases of play and focus on serve and return, rallying from the baseline, and playing the net. This program is for players level 2.5 to 3.0.

This is a great program for staff and faculty of UBC to join in on some fun drill sessions during their workday lunch hour. These drills will cover all strokes in both singles and doubles situations and allow participants to build confidence through repetition. This program is for players level 2.0 to 4.0.

We are proud to offer a student-only drills session for any and all UBC Students level 2.0 and up. This is a great program for students of UBC to join in on some fun drill sessions in between their hectic study schedules during the lunch hour. These drills will cover all strokes in both singles and doubles match play and allow participants to build their confidence through repetition. This program is for players level 2.0 to 4.0.

Adult High Performance
This program is designed for high-level players who compete locally and/or provincially in both singles and doubles play. The technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of the game are what players at this level need to explore and the drills in this program are designed to integrate these element. Players will work to improve on the intense physical and technical aspects of the game. This program is for 4.0 level players and above.

Adult Leagues
All new competitive doubles league for levels 3.0-5.0. This league is a great way to meet new people and play some fun, exciting competitive doubles matches. You can sign up as partnership, but you do not need a partner to join the league. The doubles league coordinator will help provide a partner for individual registrants. All players/teams will be put in boxes according to level and will move up or down after their box play has been completed. Matches are scheduled for every Saturday evening between 4pm and 10pm. Each match is allotted 1.5hrs to complete.

The UBC Singles League is a popular choice for intermediate (3.0) to Open level (5.0+) players who wish to add regular competition to their tennis practice. Competitive play is often the key to make that jump to the next level.This league runs in 3-week cycles and uses a competitive ladder format. Matches are scheduled for every Sunday evening between 4:00pm and 10:00pm. Each match is allotted 1.5hr to complete.

Adult Specialty Programs
This is the ultimate program to burn a lot of calories and to work up a great sweat. Players in this program will be put through intensive drills, building confidence on each stroke through a series of repetition. This program will get you tournament-tough and match-ready. Come ready to work and bring your water bottle!
Seniors League Tennis is a fun, non-competitive league style atmosphere for tennis players over 60. The goal is to enjoy the game of a lifetime - improve your tennis, meet new friends with similar interest, get healthy and stay active, improve your skills by getting technical tips from our great coaching personalities. Tennis has never been so affordable with some pricing that will have you second guessing the value of your coffee and donut!
Social Doubles Mixers
If you love playing doubles, having fun and meeting new people, then the following mixers are for you! Each mixer consists of 2 hours of match play followed by a social. Food and beverage is provided after the on-court activities during the social. The Mixer also includes prizes throughout the evening. Come enjoy a night of celebration with UBC's friendly staff and tennis professionals.
Tennis Student Night
Friday, October 4
The Student Tennis Night is an exclusive opportunity for current UBC Students. Find other tennis players on campus at a similar level, chat with our coaches, learn about all the perks UBC Students get at the UBC Tennis Centre, and have a blast with your friends and classmates! There will be opportunities for individuals of all tennis levels from beginners, through to high-performance to get involved.

- 6:15 pm – Welcome & Warm Up
- 6:30 pm – On-court activities begin. Players will be split into smaller groups depending on their tennis level.
- 8:00 pm – On-court activities end. All participants recieve tickets to after party.
- 8:15 pm – Group departs for after party.
Ready to Register?
Please register in-person at the UBC Tennis Centre with a valid UBC Student ID card. With your registration you will recieve access to a free tennis racket rental for the evening and a free drink at the after party.

Private & Semi-Private Lessons
Private instruction is one of the best ways to improve your game quickly. All UBC Tennis coaches are certified and trained to take your game to the next level. Private and Semi-Private lessons are taken based on the coaches’ availability so often clients will be placed on a waiting list until a suitable coach and time is available.

Please be aware that by filling out the request form, you are not guaranteed to instantly receive confirmation of a scheduled lesson. Once the request form is submitted, you will be placed on the waitlist and will be contacted when a coach becomes available.
