Lynda’s Story: Finding a Ladies League Community

Lynda is one of the powerhouses behind the development of the Ladies League that practices out of the UBC Tennis Centre. This league started seven years ago with 12 players, and now has over 90 players from beginners to high-performance athletes.

“The best part of our Ladies League is being a part of a community of athletic, motivated, and team-oriented players. It’s a group of amazing women from all walks of life and all levels of tennis, who are committed to developing their game.” – Lynda

Can you tell us about the Ladies League that you help facilitate?

Lynda: The United BC Tennis League is open to both beginners and competitive players. It offers competitive tennis to players who are looking to push themselves out of their comfort zone who want to grow and develop their game. It’s also a good fit for beginners who are committed to developing their game. It’s also appealing to meet a community of women who are pretty like-minded and even though they come from all different walks of life, they all share the bond of learning and loving tennis.

Why do you think this league has seen so much growth?

Lynda: I think it has to do with the environment that is very inviting and inclusive of a lot of levels. It’s a community of women who want to have fun but also be intense. Our youngest player is 24, and our oldest is mid-seventies. It’s an interesting mix of people from a variety of backgrounds.
