Adult – Events & Mixers

If you love playing doubles, having fun and meeting new people, then our Doubles Mixers are for you! Each mixer consists of match play followed by a social. Food and beverage is provided after the on-court activities and during the social. Prizes will also be given out throughout the evening. Come enjoy a night of celebration with UBC\'s friendly staff and tennis professionals.

Required Equipment: Participants are asked to bring their own tennis racket. Rackets can be rented from our Operations Desk for a fee.

Adult – Leagues, Programs, Workshops

The UBC Singles League is a popular choice for intermediate to advanced players who wish to add regular competition to their tennis practice. This league runs in 3-week cycles and uses a competitive ladder format. Competitive play is often the key to making that jump to the next level and is a crucial part of any player\'s development. This league runs in 3-week cycles and uses a competitive ladder format. Players are moved within the ladder and after each cycle based on match outcomes. Matches are every Sunday and may be scheduled between 2:30 pm and 10:00 pm; each match is allotted 90 minutes to complete. Players may reschedule up to two matches per league season and court reservations for reschedules are the responsibility of the player requesting the change in date/time.
Prerequisites: This League is for players at the 3.0 level and above. Participants who do not meet the requirements for the minimum playing level may be asked to withdraw from the league and a full refund will be provided.
Required Equipment: Participants are required to bring proper tennis attire and their own tennis racket.

Adult - Learn & Practice

This is the ultimate program to raise your heart rate and work up a great sweat. Players in this program will be put through intensive tennis drills combined with lots of repetition and circuit training. This program will help improve your physical skills, movement, and endurance, critical areas to improving your tennis development. This program is a beginner program and will use progressive compression balls. Come ready to work and bring your water bottle!

Prerequisites: This course is for players at the 1.0-2.0 level. 

Required Equipment: Participants are asked to bring proper tennis attire and their own tennis racket.

This course is designed to introduce new players to the fundamentals of tennis, including rules, scoring, and positioning. Players will learn the essential stroke families—serve, volleys, and groundstrokes—with a focus on maintaining a consistent rally and developing a strong foundation to build on. Following the F.A.S.T. (Fun, Adult, Starter, Tennis) structure, the course will use progressive balls and smaller courts to help players develop their skills more quickly and confidently. By the end of the program, participants will know how to start points using the serve and return, and will have the skills to engage in basic match play. 


Required Equipment: Participants should bring proper tennis attire and their own tennis racket. If you don’t have a racket, one can be borrowed from the UBC coach for each 1.0 session.

This course is designed to help participants improve their consistency on all strokes by enhancing their ball control and movement around the court. Players will learn to effectively prepare for a variety of shots, including deep, short, and wide shots. Players will also focus on starting the point with a consistent serve and return. This program is designed to build on the basics from the Adult 1.0 program.

This course is designed to improve participants\' consistency and ball control, focusing on receiving more challenging shots. Players will work on receiving wider, shorter, and deeper balls with improved footwork while also learning to send more effective shots back. Additionally, players will focus on serving with better mechanics, direction, and depth, and will develop their net play, improving the ability to handle high and low balls.

Prerequisites: This course is for players at the 2.5 level. Players will be assessed at the start of the program to ensure they meet the requirements of the program. Players not at this level will be withdrawn from the program and will receive a full refund.

Players will learn to gain more points by incorporating spin into their shots, including topspin and underspin on both forehand and backhand groundstrokes, to improve their effectiveness in rallies. The program will also focus on improving players\' serve and return with better mechanics resulting in increased accuracy, and speed as well as helping them gain better control over volleys at varying heights.

Prerequisites: This course is for players at the 3.0 level. Players will be assessed at the start of the program to ensure they ensure meet the requirements of the program. Players not at this level will be withdrawn from the program and will receive a full refund.

Players will learn to gain more points by utilizing various kinds of serves, including slice and kick serves. They will also improve their return with better location and effectiveness as well as execution of cross-courts and down the line shots. Players will learn how to implement variety in their groundstroke rallies and incorporate various kinds of attacking and defensive shots. Players will also be trained on their overheads and put away volleys.


Prerequisites: This course is for players at the 3.5 level. Players will be assessed at the start of the program to ensure they meet the requirements of the program. Players not at this level will be withdrawn from the program and will receive a full refund.

This program is designed for high-level players who compete locally and/or provincially in both singles and doubles play at the 4.5-5.0 level. Players at this level will engage in drills designed to improve their tactical skills and performance in competition through a focus on tactical and psychological skills. The drills and situations they engage in are designed to integrate these elements. Players will work to improve on the intense physical and technical aspects of the game as well.

Prerequisites: Registration for this program will be by waitlist only. Players will be selected off of the waitlist based on approval by the High Performance Director. This program is for players at the 4.5 to 5.0 level. Players not at the appropriate level will be withdrawn from the program and will receive a full refund or may be moved to another more appropriate level pending availability. Prerequisites: This program is for players who are at the 1.0-2.0 level. Players must be turning 55 years of age before the end of the Calendar year in order to register.

Prerequisites: Only current UBC Faculty & Staff are eligible to register.

Think you and your friends have what it takes to beat the coach? In our 3.0 - 3.5 Pro-Am Doubles, players will compete with and against UBC Tennis coaches in doubles play. Participants will also have an opportunity to play supervised doubles matches while receiving valuable instruction on doubles strategy.

Note: Players may also play singles depending on program registration.

Prerequisites: This league is for players who are between a 3.0 and 3.5 level and have been assessed by a UBC coach. Players not at this level will be withdrawn from the program and will receive a full refund.

High Performance

The Elite program is specifically designed for players competing in 3-star provincial tournaments and higher. Players will be practising in a highly competitive and engaging environment to further develop their passion for the sport. Training themes will include tactical and technical development, as well as a strong emphasis on physical and mental skills. Players are expected to compete in at least 8 Tennis BC or Tennis Canada sanctioned tournaments annually. It is strongly recommended that players arrange private lessons with your preferred High Performance Coach for an increased rate of development.

Required Equipment: Participants are required to bring proper tennis attire, their own tennis racket, tennis shoes and skipping rope.

The Red Fundamentals program is for players who are looking to start their tennis journey or are recreational players. Players will learn basic rally, serve and net play skills through various progressions. Players will improve their tennis skills and learn the fundamentals of the sport through exciting practice and game-related activities. Players will also be introduced to the fundamental movement skills (agility, balance, coordination) that are important for athletic development. Red Fundamentals uses a scaled-down court and over-sized tennis balls that are 75% slower than the standard. Proper court etiquette and sport behaviour will also be emphasized. Players will be assessed on their ability, skill and willingness to learn during the first week of the program. Players will then be placed in to either Fundamentals 1 or 2 to provide the highest quality experience for every player.

The Tennis for Tots program introduces players to their first tennis experience in the most fun and innovative way. By using modified equipment and storytelling, our instructors turn skill-building activities in to an hour-long adventure each time. The aim is to capture each child\'s imagination while developing their basic coordination and tennis skills.

Prerequisites: Participants in this program must be between the ages of 4-5 years old as of December 31st.
