Participants of all backgrounds are welcome to attend drop-in open studio time at the Student Recreation Centre and ARC. Free for all UBC student, staff & faculty, and CSC & UNA residents (public rates listed below). The space is designated for tables tennis, individual dance, individual martial arts practice, or functional use, and limited equipment will be accessible within the space. Any group exercise and/or routines can only be done in pairs, and martial arts can only be practiced solo. When attending a drop-in studio session please wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and check in at the SRC or ARC front desk.
Online Reservations & Drop-In Access
Some activities are available for reservations using the online registration system. These sessions help ensure entry to visitors during peak periods.
- Sessions listed as “DROP-IN” do not required advanced registration. These sessions are subject to capacity, and operate on a first come, first served basis.
- Sessions listed as “REGISTER” require advanced online registration, however onsite registration will be available based on capacity. Online registration is available 24 hours in advance.

1 To qualify for the UBC Student rate, a UBC Student must be enrolled in courses and paying/paid the Athletics & Recreation student fee. A delay of up to 24 hours after connecting a UBC Recreation login with a UBC CWL may occur before UBC Students are eligible for student rates and programs.
Rules
- All participants are required to check-in at the front desk.
- Clean indoor shoes are required.
- No sparring, and no group/partner Martial Art practice. Martial Arts may only be practiced in this space individually.
- Groups practicing dance cannot exceed 6 individuals. Any groups larger than 6 individuals must rent the studio if looking to use it as a practice space.
- No head spins.
- No food or drink permitted in the SRC and ARC studios, with the exception of water.
Equipment Rentals
- Participants must bring their own equipment, or provide a valid ID at the SRC or ARC front desk to exchange for equipment.
- Current available equipment: table tennis racquets and balls, skipping ropes, free weights, punching bags, and speed bags.
- Borrowed equipment must be returned, and any lost or damaged items will result in a fee being charged.
