UBC Aquatic Centre Rules & Etiquette
Your safety and a positive experience for everyone are our top priorities. Please review our rules & etiquette below to help ensure an enjoyable visit for all.
Hygiene and Health:
- A cleansing shower is required before using the aquatic amenities.
- Patrons with an illness, including open sores, bandages, head colds, discharging ears or noses, or infected eyes are not permitted to use the pools, hot tub, steam, or sauna.
- No spitting anywhere in the aquatic facility: pools, hot tub, showers, change rooms, or sauna/steam room.
- No food is permitted on the pool deck or in showers, change rooms, or sauna/steam room.
- Refrain from conducting personal grooming (trimming/shaving) in the showers, change rooms, and sauna/steam room.
Safety and Conduct:
- No running, fighting, or engaging in other conduct likely to cause an injury.
- Contaminating or fouling the pool/whirlpool is strictly prohibited.
- No walking across, and no swimming under the bulkhead.
- Diving is not permitted, except in designated areas.
- Refrain from hanging or swinging on or from facility fixtures, equipment, or amenities.
Facility Rules:
- Guests must actively supervise children for whom they are responsible.
- Immediately report all incidents (injuries, contamination, fouling of pool or whirlpool) to aquatic staff.
- The UBC Aquatic Centre is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

- Children 12 years and younger must attend with a participating (in water) adult of 16 years of age or older. Children 7 years and younger must, when in the water, be within arm’s reach of a responsible adult of 16 years of age or older at all times.
- 1 adult/guardian of 16 years or older to 3 children under 7 years old.
- 1 adult/guardian of 16 years or older to 6 children 8-12 years old.
- Guests under the influence of drugs or alcohol are not permitted at the UBC Aquatic Centre
- Starting January 2, 2025, access to the 3-metre diving board will be restricted to individuals aged 12 and older who are at least 1.35 metres (4 ft 4 in) tall.
- Guests of all ages attending Leisure Pool Swims after 3:45pm on Monday - Friday and/or all-day Saturday/Sunday are required to wear a wristband.
- Guests are not permitted to swim or use amenities before or after swim lessons unless admission is paid.
- Outside footwear is not permitted on the pool deck or shower areas. Bare feet, aqua shoes, or deck sandals only.
- An appropriate swimsuit must be worn in the pool, whirlpool, sauna / steam room. Street clothes are not permitted.
- Guests who require a water diaper must also wear an appropriate bathing suit over top.
- Use equipment safely and properly. Do not use equipment for purposes other than what they were designed for.
- Strollers are only permitted in the designated stroller zone in the Leisure Pool viewing area or in the main hallways. Strollers are not permitted on deck nor in the changing rooms.
- Tempered Glass Masks are not permitted within the UBC Aquatic Centre.
- Glass water bottles & containers are not permitted anywhere in the facility.
- No bicycles, skateboards, scooters, or rollerblades in the facility.
- No wakeboards or surfboards of any kind are permitted within the facility.
- Personal SCUBA gear is not permitted during recreational swims.
- Mermaid tails/monofin are not permitted for recreational swimming.
