Online Reservations & Drop-In Access
Some activities are available for reservations using the online registration system. These sessions help ensure entry to visitors during peak periods.
- REGISTER – Online registration is required. If capacity permits walk-in guests are welcome but are required to have a UBC Recreation account created prior to attending. Reservations are available up to 50 hours prior to each session’s start time. Swimmers should not arrive more than 10 minutes before the scheduled swim time.
- DROP-IN – Entry starts at the time of the swim session, and is first-come, first-serve and subject to capacity. Please ensure you have your UBC Recreation account created before your visit.
Facilities & Amenities
The UBC Aquatic Centre has three separate tanks that can accommodate a variety of programming options:
Tanks:
- Leisure Pool: Accessible via stairs or a ramp with a temperature of 89-90°F (31-32°C). Depth ranges from 0.9m to 1.22m.
- Recreation Pool: A 25m-length pool accessible via ramp with a temperature of 80-82°F (26-28°C). Depth ranges from 1.07m – 4.5m.
- Competition Pool: A 50m-length by 25m-wide tank with 1m movable bulkhead with a temperature of 78-80°F (26-27°C). Facilitated lift access is available upon request. Depth is 2.4-2.5m.
Amenities
Guests are advised that the following amenities may or may not be open during their visit. Please consult the facility schedule or contact the UBC Aquatic Centre to confirm if they are open.
- Hot Tub: The 34-person capacity tank is 102-104°F (39-40°C).
- Steam Room: Located next to the competition tank, and set to 105°F (40.6°C).
- Sauna: Located next to the competition tank, and set to 185°F (85°C).

Activities
- Length Swim: Sessions are suitable for lap swimming only and offered in either 50m or 25m length sessions. Swimmers must be 13 years or older and should be comfortable in deep water.
- Community Swim: Sessions are open to all ages and abilities.
- Children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or youth (at least 16 years of age) responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively swimming within arm’s reach at all times.
- Children 12 and under must be with a participating adult or youth (at least 16 years of age) responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively participating in a swim session in the facility.
- Please note, a participating adult is defined as an adult who is swimming in the facility.
- Training Swim: Sessions are for swimmers comfortable in fast or express swim lanes only. Swimmers must be 16 years or older. Offered in either 50m or 25m length sessions.
- Shallow/Deep Aquafit: Swimmers 13 years or older who are comfortable in deep water are welcome to participate in Shallow/Deep Aquafit classes.
- Hydro Board: These aqua fitness classes are performed on floating, fitness-specific stand-up boards. Energizing and fun for all skill levels. Work on your balance, strength, core, and enjoy a fun workout!
Some sessions are restricted to specific groups or members and are identified as:
- UBC Student Access: Session is available only for current UBC Students.
- Toonie Swim UBC Faculty & Staff: Session is available only to UBC Faculty & Staff at a discounted $2 rate.
- Sensory Sensitive Drop-in Swim: sensory sensitive swim is open to all ages and abilities. This session will have blinds lowered on the south side of the building, reduced capacities, length and open swim space available. There will be no PA announcements, whistles or music during this time. Guests are invited to arrive at the start time of the session. Early entries will not be permitted.
- Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary (2STNB) Swim Time: Is for all who identify as two-spirit, trans and non-binary of all ages and swimming ability. The Competition 50m pool and Leisure pool will be available during this session for lane and open swim. This session will have blinds lowered on the south side of the building. Guests are invited to arrive at the start time of the session. Early entries will not be permitted.
Drop-in Rates & Memberships
All UBC Aquatic Centre memberships include access to aqua fitness classes and the UBC Aquatic Centre swim sessions. Click here for more detailed information on memberships and passes. Guests are also welcome to purchase a drop-in pass in-person for drop-in swim sessions or online for pre-registered sessions. See below for drop-in rates.

1 To qualify for the UBC Student rate, a UBC Student must be enrolled in courses and paying/paid the Athletics & Recreation student fee. A delay of up to 24 hours after connecting a UBC Recreation login with a UBC CWL may occur before UBC Students are eligible for student rates and programs.
2 10-visit and 1-year memberships expire one year from the date of purchase, and include a 4 week closure for annual preventative maintenance during which access is restricted.
3 Not showing up for a registered session will result in one (1) visit being removed from the pass, and no refunds or credit will be provided.
4 Single session registrations are non-refundable.
There is a $15.00 fee to replace lost or stolen pass cards.
