Day of the Longboat | Know Before You Go

We’re excited to welcome you to Day of the Longboat this weekend! To ensure you have a smooth and memorable race day, we’ve outlined all the essential details below. Please take a moment to read through everything carefully, as it includes important information:

Race Day Information:

Please ensure you and your whole team report to the check in table 35 minutes prior to your race time to check in at the registration tent.

Identification & Bag Check:

Everyone must bring a physical UBC Student card to race day. Digital copies or other forms of ID will not be accepted, and team members without ID cannot participate. Bag check is available on race day for $2. Cash or Card is accepted and only 1 bag per team is allowed.

Transportation and Parking:

Location: Jericho Sailing Centre, 1300 Discovery St, Vancouver, BC V6R 4L9

Transit:

  • Westbound/Going towards UBC: Take the 4 or 84 buses and get off at W 4th x Alma St
  • Eastbound/Going away from UBC: Take the 4 or 84 buses and get off at W 4th x 4100 Block

Shuttle:

There will be a free shuttle running only on  Sunday, September 28 from 7:00- 9:00AM running every 15 minutes between UBC and Jericho Sailing Centre. The shuttle will depart from the UBC Bookstore.

Parking:

Paid parking is available outside and surrounding Jericho Sailing Centre.


Team Spirit:

To make this weekend even more exciting, we invite your team to make a splash by showing up in your most creative and fun costumes! UBC Recreation will be featuring our favorite looks on Instagram, and you could see your team’s fabulous ‘fits’ reposted if you share them on your stories and tag @ubcrec. Plus, prizes await the best-dressed teams, so bring your A-game!


Important Rules & Regulations:

Proof of Identification:
Please ensure all members of your team are prepared to present their UBC Card for check-in. Government issues photo identification will also be accepted, but only if this person is on your roster. Pictures will not be accepted, and members of your team who do not have the proper ID will not be eligible to race and your team may therefore risk your advancement eligibility.

Foot Wear:
All participants must wear close toed shoes in order to participate. Bare footed participants will not be allowed to participate. Runners, both the starting runner and finishing runner must be in closed toed shoes, no exceptions.

Waiver:
Participants must sign a waiver before participating, failure to sign will render them ineligible to race. If you have not filled out the online waiver, please do so now. If you are having any issues with your waiver, please email im.longboat@ubc.ca

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

Tuesday, September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is to honour and uphold Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors of the Indian Residential School system, and to commemorate those who didn’t return home. As Day of the Longboat will take place on the weekend before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage teams to explore resources for further learning:
