Faculty & Staff Summer Sports Series

The Faculty & Staff Summer Series are free sports tournaments made possible by the support of UBC Human Resources. Each of these events offers an afternoon for team-building and camaraderie away from the office. Registration options are available for entire teams or individuals looking to be placed on a team.

Faculty & Staff Exclusive Drop-in Activities

In addition to regularly scheduled free drop-in programming that is available UBC Faculty & Staff, for the summer of 2026 we’ve added these no cost options:

Pickleball

Faculty & staff-only sessions of pickleball are being offered this summer. Pickleball is an easy-to-learn paddle sport that combines the best elements of other racquet sports while being a great social and lower physical impact activity. Drop-in sessions are oriented around doubles matches (two vs two).

No equipment required; racquet and ball rentals are available at the front desk. Wear active wear or comfortable clothing; athletic, non-marking shoes are required.

  • No reservations required; drop-in spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Free racquet and ball rentals available (ID will be required as a deposit)

Flow Yoga

Flow Yoga with Hanne is the ideal yoga experience for all levels. Yoga places and emphasis on moving through postures while synchronizing your breath and movement. This class will develop your core strength, breath awareness and improve your spine’s alignment. A great way to add some ‘flow’ to your day!

Hanne is an experienced yoga and Pilates instructor. She is well known and a loved instructor, and has been teaching for over 10 years with UBC Fitness and Recreation.

No equipment required; yoga mats and yoga related equipment are provided. Wear active or comfortable clothing; shoes, socks, barefoot are okay.

  • Reserve a spot beginning 7 days in advance

Ice Hockey

All skating abilities and skill levels are welcome to participate in drop-in hockey. Body checking is not permitted during drop-in hockey. All skaters are required to wear full hockey equipment while participating, including a CSA approved hockey helmet. Hockey equipment is available for rent at the pro shop.

Advanced registration is required for all drop-in sessions. Online registration is available beginning 7 days prior to the drop-in session. Goalies, to reserve your spot, please call 604-827-4324 to register. On-site registration is only available until capacity is reached. Drop-in hockey has a capacity of 26 skaters and 2 goalies.

Government photo ID or UBC Card is required to sign in. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your ice time to sign-in at the Pro Shop prior to going to the locker room or entering the ice.

Mini Soccer

Mini soccer features reduced size fields and mini nets; a total of 3 game fields will be available during each session.  Games will feature no more than 5 per team – no goalies required. Please note that cleats are not permitted.

Advanced registration is not required for each session, but all participants must complete a waiver prior to playing. Participants must bring their UBC Card to sign-in for each session.
