Teagan

Teagan’s dance training began locally at Arts Umbrella and the Goh Ballet Academy. He completed his training at Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto. After graduation Teagan danced professionally with the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany and the National Ballet of Canada before coming to UBC in 2023 to pursue his BSc with a combined major in Chemistry and Computer Science. Teagan has experience performing in a wide range of classical and contemporary repertoire. He is passionate about the mental and physical benefits of dance and aims to provide students with a rewarding and enjoyable class.

Ludovica

Ludovica Mazzucato is a professional ballet instructor, dancer, and choreographer with extensive international experience across Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Middle East. She began her training at the Accademia di Danza Comini in Padova, Italy, studying for the ISTD Cecchetti certifications and later completing the National Diploma of Teacher of Classical Dance (Vaganova Method), recognized by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).

In the course of her career, she has trained, performed, and taught across a variety of styles, including ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, and theatre jazz, to name a few. Her advanced teacher training includes the Master of Arts in Education, Dance Teaching with the Royal Academy of Dance (UK), as well as certifications with the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries at NYU (USA).

Ludovica has performed and collaborated with internationally renowned choreographers and companies, performing and teaching her own works as well as the repertoire of artists including Jiří Kylián, Hans Van Manen, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Akram Khan, José Vidal y Cía., and Batsheva Dance Company. She has led workshops and masterclasses for almost two decades, and her works have been staged internationally.

Her teaching balances technical expertise with creativity, musicality, and individual artistry. At UBC, her classes emphasize both technical confidence and expressive maturity, inviting new and established dancers to experience ballet as both a discipline, a cultural art form, and a wonderful way to enjoy who we are.

Leila

Based in Vancouver, BC, Leila has been actively training at Studio North and TrekOfArts and has traveled as far as L.A to compete at World of Dance! Her favourite dance highlights were performing alongside Miss A’s Min, Sunkis, and Jay R – among many other memorable events. Leila has a passion for educating new dancers and has been teaching dance for the last 4 years. She incorporates a variety of exercises to aid students in improving form, posture, and stamina.

Lauren

Lauren has trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, lyrical, and salsa for over 20 years in both Vancouver and Singapore. In 2022, she expanded her practice into choreography and hip hop, performing with and directing campus dance teams, and now dancing with Quill Collective dance company. Over the past four years, Lauren has discovered a passion for creating movement that draws inspiration from many different styles. She is excited to share her experience in the studio and help students explore their own artistry through dance.

Heather Kirkland

Heather has been teaching dance in Vancouver and Burnaby since 2003. Her early training included the Royal Acadaemy of Dance ballet technique and examinations and later Cecchetti technique and modern dance at Arts Umbrella. She graduated from the Performance Intensive program at Maindance and then moved to Toronto where she completed the training program at the school of Toronto Dance theatre. Later she studied as a dance/ theatre apprentice with Jumpstart Performance Company.

Before discovering teaching Heather could be found on stage in Toronto and Vancouver in productions such as 12 min max, Dancing on the edge and The Kiss Project. Now she is thoroughly enjoying sharing her love of dance through teaching and choreography in both ballet and modern dance forms.

In her classes Heather encourages artistic expression and musicality while working with students on good healthy alignment and technique. She aims to cultivate a supportive environment where creativity can flourish regardless of your level of experience.

Carmen

Carmen has over 10 years of diverse dance training, with experience in jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop. Over the past five years, she has focused extensively on hip-hop within Vancouver’s dance scene. She has honed her craft at studios like Studio North and TrekOfArts and recently competed with TREKFAM at World of Dance LA 2024. In addition to performing, Carmen has teaching experience of over 6 years with a deep passion for teaching a range of hip-hop styles, sharing her expertise and love for the art form with others.
