Thinking of joining a team on Campus? Look no further!

Finding Your Team!

Whether it be varsity sport, Thunderbirds Sport Clubs or Intramurals, UBC boasts over 45 competitive teams to choose from at UBC, and the possibilities seem endless. Cracking a roster may be difficult at times, but all UBC coaches, executives, and team staff are looking for the same things: eagerness to be a part of a team, commitment to the team, sportsmanship, and compete level. If you can offer those qualities, you’re already on the right track!

What’s the Best Fit?

UBC boast 3 distinct athletic programs: Recreation Intramural Leagues, Thunderbirds Sport Clubs, and Thunderbirds Varsity Athletics.

Finding the best fit can be daunting when there are so many options to choose from… let us break it down for you!

UBC Recreation Intramural Leagues are the most accessible way to get active on campus. Minimal time commitment makes Intramurals an awesome way to take a break from studying, get your body moving, and make some friends on campus.

Founded on the principles of inclusivity and community-building, Intramural League Sports are a great way to get active with old friends and meet new ones during your time at UBC.

All games happen on campus once per week in or at our UBC sport facilities. Each league runs for a term, so if you would like to switch it up from term to term – go for it!

Join as a complete team with a group of friends or as an individual. Note that there are also tiers to fit your experience or competitive level in addition to gender specific and open leagues. The cost to participated ranges from $10-$15 per person for each league.

UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs is a competitive, student-led program. The innovative modelling of Thunderbirds Sport Clubs gives student-athletes a competitive team to be a part of with weekly practices, multiple competitions per term, and elite coaching.

TSC boast 14 clubs including Alpine Skiing, Artistic Swimming, Cycling, Equestrian, Lacrosse, Nordic skiing, Quidditch, Sailing, Table Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Triathlon, Men’s and Women’s Ultimate.

These clubs are pay-to-play model which means that you pay for your participation on the team. The TSC model also allows for you to be engaged in actually running your club – including deciding where to travel, what apparel to wear and what social events to hold.

Travel across Canada, the US, and Internationally creates lifelong bonds between teammates and irreplaceable memories. TSC team trips range from local trips in the Lower Mainland, travelling across Canada to week-long trips to California and Hawaii!

UBC Thunderbirds Varsity Athletics is one of the most prestigious university athletic programs in Canada.

Varsity athletes dedicate 20-40 hours/week to improving their game and compete in the USports Canada West division or in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Student athletes have the opportunity to demonstrate excellence in North America and on the world stage. This year we will even have a number of students representing Canada at the Tokyo Olympics!

Often recruited out of high school, varsity athletes may receive athletic scholarships for their dedication and successes. UBC Vancouver has 26 teams, including basketball, football, hockey, soccer, volleyball, rugby, swimming and more!

If the commitment doesn’t sound like your thing, students and fans alike can catch a home game on campus throughout the year. Be sure to wear your blue and gold as you cheer on your birds!
