UBC Recreation’s Day of the Longboat 2024 weekend brought out over 400 teams to Jericho Beach on the 28 and 29 of September. In our largest turnout since pre-pandemic times, participants in competitive and just-for-fun heats fiercely rowed their longboats towards the finish line. With passionate teams came equally enthusiastic team names. Let’s take a look at some of the best from the weekend!
Sailing Puns and Ocean-inspired
Several teams integrated sailing puns into their names, using witty references to boating terms and oceanic themes:

Many teams showed off their love for pop culture by naming their crews after famous characters and shows:
- Power Puff Paddlers

- Rec Thoughts: Just imagining embodied beloved characters as they departed the Jericho shores.
