UBC Recreation Free Week

UBC Recreation Free Week | September 10-16, 2018

Free fitness and aqua fitness classes are running all week and there are numerous open houses with free activities and giveaways. You won’t want to miss out! No experience is required for any of the classes and all abilities are welcome! Try out as many classes as you want, for free!

How to participate:

No registration is required! Simply show up at the location of your classes 10 minutes before the scheduled start time and you’re ready to go! Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis with priority given to those who have registered for the full program. Everyone will be asked to sign a waiver.

Monday September 10 | 9:00am – 11:30am
Come check out UBC’s newest fitness facility! With 8000 square feet of fitness centre space, 2 new studios, lockers, gendered and a universal change room, and much more… there are plenty of new ways to work activity into your routine.
Highlights:

  • Enjoy a free workout in the ARC Fitness Studio! Drop by between 9:00am and 11:30am for free entry to the facility.
  • Meet our personal trainers and chat with them about your fitness goals
  • Get your sweat on and drop-in for a free Pump class in the Lower Studio from 11:00am to 11:45am


Recess on Main Mall

Wednesday September 12 | 11:00am – 3:00pm
Our Intramural program takes over Main Mall every September with a variety of fun sports, games, and activities. Just drop-in between classes to work a little more movement into your day! You can also learn all about some of the signature events at UBC like Day of the Longboat and Water Wars, or learn how to find a team for Intramural Leagues.
Highlights:

  • Take a movement break in-between classes with drop-in soccer, ultimate, spike ball, volleyball, and much more!
  • Take a run at our inflatable obstacle course!
  • Learn about the countless ways to get involved and have fun this year at UBC.


UBC Aquatic Centre Open House

Come check out the UBC Aquatic Centre and try some free programs!
Highlights:

  • Complimentary coffee and treats in the lobby
  • Free entrance tot he aquatic centre for the duration of the open house.
  • Try out our Hydro Board Aqua Fitness class, take a dive off the diving boards, participate in a complimentary shallow water aqua fitness class, and more!
  • Contests! Enter to win a 1-month membership, Hydro Board class for two, or a swim merchandise package.

Ever want to try your hand at tennis? Did you know we have a state-of-the-art public facility right here on campus? That’s right – no steep membership fees! Whether you have played tennis before, or if you’re brand new to the sport we have a program tailored just for you.
Highlights:

  • Meet our incredible tennis coaches and ask them any questions!
  • Try your hand at some on-court activities. Whether you want to complete some obstacle courses while bouncing a tennis ball, run some drills with our coaches, or rally against a coach – there’s an activity for all tennis levels!
  • Complimentary snacks in the lobby and giveaways!


Drop-In Skating

Free Skate at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre

Thursday September 13 | 11:00am – 3:30pm
Every week the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre hosts a variety of public skating opportunities. Join us for a free skate to kick-off the semester! Don’t have a pair of skates? You can rent them from the Pro Shop at the arena! We’ll see you on the ice.
Highlights:

  • Free drop-in public skate opportunity during the hours of the open house. Check-in at the ProShop
  • Learn more about ice programming at UBC!
  • Free skate rentals for open house participants during the hours of the open house.
