Biography
Graphic Designer by trade, Derek started paddling on a dragon boat as a "hobby" to stay active after sitting all day from 9 to 5. Soon the hobby turned into a passion, and the passion turned into medals. Before he knew it, he was on world stage on several occasions. To him the sport was never so much about the activity itself, but the family he trained day and night with, and achieving the goals they set out together. After the 2014 Club Crew World Championships in Ravenna, Italy, Derek took some time to himself but has since returned back to the dragon boat scene as a Co-Coach for the UBC Thunderbirds Dragon Boat Sport Club along side his old teammate, Anthony Cao.
