Biography
Anthony started paddling in grade 12 with his high school team, Alpha Secondary School, in 2005/2006.
He then took a break from paddling and got back into it in 2008 when he joined Dragon Hearts Magnum with Derek, co-coach of UBC Thunderbirds Sport Club. In the 2009 season, Dragon Hearts Magnum came in 4th place overall at the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in 2009, and 2nd place overall in the 2010 season.
The U23 members were then given an opportunity to train together in order to try out for the U23 National Team in 2010. That's when One West was born. One West went on to race on the U23 Canadian National Team at 2011 World Championships in Tampa.
He took a year off after that and came back to One West in 2012, where they placed 1st overall at the Canadian National Championships in 2013, which earned them a berth to race at the 2014 World Club Crew Championships in Ravenna, Italy.
He started coaching UBC Dragon Boat in 2014 when he came back from Italy.
"We saw the potential the team had and they came in 1st in both Recreational A and B divisions. They continued to train hard, and worked their way into 6th place in both Competitive A and B divisions. This year, with the help of TSC, I'm excited to see how far they'll go at the 2017 Canadian National Championships." - Anthony Cao
