UBC Camps works hard to provide an accommodating and inclusive camp experience.

We believe all campers should have the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of recreation, and the opportunity to build confidence, social, and life skills through tailored camps programming.

Our Exceptionalities and Inclusion Form gives us more information about your child prior to camp beginning, so that we can work together to ensure your child has a positive camp experience. We know support – and “success at camp” – looks different for every child. Accommodations might include activity or environment modifications, 1-on-1 support with an inclusion support worker, and more.

Information you may wish to share could include tips and tricks for calming your child down or helping them to focus, a medical diagnosis, recent life events that may affect your child’s wellbeing at camp, your child’s likes/dislikes, colour or light sensitivities, and more.

While the information you choose to share through our online form is confidential, it will be shared among camp management and the instructors working directly with your child.

We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible. This will allow us to educate our instructors, who can in turn modify programming or approach, ensuring all campers are included. The information you provide will also allow staff to better address conflict, should it arise, and to better understand behaviours as they arise.

UBC Camps follows the below ratio guidelines, as outlined by The American Camping Association:

Ages 6-8: 1:8
Ages 9-14: 1:10
Ages 15-18: 1:12
